Title: Re: The Harbor-Davidson Post by MMRanch on 05/06/20 at 22:10:03 Wow , I believe he should have got the biggest motor HF has ! A 22HP V-twin would do good on that monster bike. Or even the 11HP single motor ... ::) .............................................................. I had the thought to use a Savage to do the same thing , but had the idea to use a torque converter instead of a transmission with the 22HP motor. I did see a HD done with a 35HP Diesel water pump motor and a torque converter that worked just fine. I saw it in Tn. but it had Oregon plates on in ??? :-? ............................................................... |

Title: Re: The Harbor-Davidson Post by Dave on 05/08/20 at 04:12:18 That Harbor Davidson is a hoot and fun to look at - but it isn't anything you are going to want to ride or own long term. The smoothness and acceleration of a real motorcycle engine is far superior to what a lawn mower engine of any size can provide. It is a novelty and might be fun at Bike Week, Sturgis, campground or any other place where traffic is at parade speeds - but is likely a hazard and waaay too slow to be safe to ride on a modern highway. Back in the 1980's I drove a VW bus with a 40HP engine - the National Speed Limit was 55mph and I could maintain 60mph on the flat and on the steep hills would tuck in behind a semi and claw my way up the hill........you could not drive the bus safely on the highway today (Same for the Harbor Davidson). They paid $2,000 for the used Harley, the engine is $119 at Harbor Freight, they spend $400 modifying the engine to get from 6.5HP to 18HP.....and they didn't say what they spent on chains and sprockets - and they didn't include any idea what their labor was worth...or what the original engine could be resold for. I would suspect that they could have rebuilt the motor and kept on doing the Potato-potato thing for a while for about the same amount of money and time they spent converting it to the Harbor Davidson. For about the same amount of money you could get a real motorcycle. https://cincinnati.craigslist.org/mcy/d/cincinnati-2007-royal-enfield-bullet/7118712996.html https://cincinnati.craigslist.org/mcy/d/walton-1989-honda-hawk-gt-nt650/7118202272.html https://cincinnati.craigslist.org/mcd/d/cincinnati-1998-moto-guzzi-ev11/7117421831.html https://cincinnati.craigslist.org/mcy/d/middletown-honda-ct90-trail-1968/7117010436.html https://cincinnati.craigslist.org/mcd/d/sandusky-2005-yamaha-fz-6/7108548308.html https://cincinnati.craigslist.org/mcy/d/milford-1971-honda-350-scrambler/7107791058.html https://cincinnati.craigslist.org/mcy/d/cincinnati-2005-kawasaki-concours/7107193483.html And you can buy nice Japanese V-Twins by the dozen for $2,000 - $3,000. https://cincinnati.craigslist.org/mcy/d/west-chester-honda-shadow-spirit/7105272529.html https://cincinnati.craigslist.org/mcd/d/cincinnati-2000-suzuki-vs1400glpy/7112324462.html It really is a great time to be buying a used motorcycle! |

Title: Re: The Harbor-Davidson Post by Eegore on 05/08/20 at 13:50:53 PM me the exact model of that laptop, or is it a tower? and I will see. My experience is adding the hardware is easy, but the drivers can be a pain sometimes. |
