Title: Replacement Raptor petcock outlet size
Post by eddytor on 05/17/20 at 08:13:18

I have a Savage LS-650  year: 2006

I bought a replacement petcock that doesn't use the vacuum line. It fits the tank but the outlet does not match the carbs inlet. The petcock fits the tank.

I got the Yamaha raptor 660 YFM660R model as described on the forum in another post.

Carb - approx 9mm
Petcock - approx 6.5 mm

My question is if I made this setup work would the flow rate of gas be insufficient?

I noticed on the web that the size of the outlet for the petcocks are not specified.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts,
Ed

Followup: I have read all the response posts.  The consensus seems to be that I should get the larger correct size which I will do. Thank you all for your responses.

If YOu didnt buy an Official Yamaha part, you didnt get the one that works.. The cheap knockoffs have smaller diameter outlets, and they dont flow Wurfashit..

I have had a non raptor petcock on my bike for about 2 years now
Today I decided to examine the thing
It has an outlet inside diameter of 4mm the carb has an inside diameter of 5 mm
The tank is half full and I timed one litre out of the hose    1min 40 secs
My bike on open road cruising burns 4litres per hour
The petcock on test will pass 36litres per hour
I am happy with it so far

In my experience, it'll be fine riding around town.
On the superslab, you'll start running lean on the top end.
And then you'll go up a hill and it'll cough...

Yes well I guess average flow rates dont tell us much about wide open throttle flow rates
I am a conservative rider so maybe I just havent noticed any faltering

5/16" tubing works just fine !
Cheers!  8-)

One of the other problems, is the potential air lock that can happen as the hole size gets smaller.  When doing a flow test the unrestricted flow can push the air out - but when the tubing is installed and the bike is only flowing a small amount.......the air can get trapped and block the flow of fuel.  This really becomes a problem when you install a small plastic inline filter, as the plastic nipple has a thick wall and the hole is small and restricts flow of fuel....especially when a bubble gets trapped!
