Title: New compressor for the workshop Post by kamelryttarn on 06/21/20 at 10:56:02 Juat wanted to show you guys what I've been working on the past month or so. My Savage need some rust removal so I read up on sand blasting cabinets and air compressors and it soon became clear that sand/glass blasting required a LOT of air and since I didn't have a compressor I thought I would build one myself. I found a big motor with a VFD and bought two air compressor pumps and a belt drive pulley and today I finally got everything hooked up. It works great! I hope I can start blasting the smaller parts in the cabinet next week and the frame and rear swing arm somethime during my upcoming vacation. The motor is a 7.5kW ABB 4-pole motor and the pumps are Italian made 4HP. The VFD allows me to set the desired rpm and I plan to connect an analog pressure transducer so I can set the desired pressure. I use cold water to cool the air in the plate heat exchanger and also to condensate water in the compressed air which is then filtered out in the water trap. As you can see the pressure at the blasting cabinet is just over 5 bar and the blasting nozzle is 6mm so there is plenty of cold, dry air to work with. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aArRFXTGVdA |
