Title: Looking for a Head and Some Gear Pics
Post by Mothership on 10/02/20 at 17:28:36

I am working on a new project and have an engine that the cam bearing/channel is tore up. Anyone have a head laying around for fairly cheap ? I am in Utah 84062 for shipping purposes. My engine is a 2005 but not much changed over the life of the Savage/S40. Also I need some GOOD pictures of how the transmission forks and gears fit together. This engine came to me in boxes so I am not sure how to reassemble. It is a 5spd. I looked in the manuals but need better visuals. Thanks for your help guys !

Get someone to help when you assemble the transmission. Trying to hold everything in place by yourself as you spin it to check that it shifts through all 5 gears is difficult. A second pair of hands makes this step much easier. Two of the forks are near identical and easy to mix up. If you don't catch that mixup you will only have a 3 speed when you assemble the case halves and you get to split the cases and start over then.

Thank You for the info. I think, that is where I am at right now. I finally felt that I got them correct and reassembled the case. Now I am not so sure.....LOL

I have 2 heads that may interest you.  The quoted prices do not include cams or rockers....or hardware.

One is in good shape and "as-is" from the bike.....greasy and dirty.  It will clean up nicely and all bearings and threads are good - it appears the bike was running a bit rich.  $220 shipped.  (Add $25 and I will pull the valves and clean off the carbon from them and install new valve seals).

The other head has been cleaned up and all paint has been removed.....so you will need to paint it the color of your choice (I recommend Eastwood 2K ceramic paint).  All carbon is gone and I will install the cleaned up valves and install new valve seals. $300 shipped.

Mothership gets first choice.....then anyone else can inquire if you need a head.  I have lots of photos and can email them if you want...I will post a couple later this evening.

Head 2:

The head has been stripped of all dirt, carbon, grease and paint. I can assemble it with new valve seals and you can paint it any color you want.
