Title: WTB: 1986 harness, CDI, ignitor, ignition w keys
Post by 1986 savage on 05/03/21 at 07:40:33

Hello!
I'm restoring an old 86 savage I got for 200$, I've already rebuilt the motor and re-assembled the darn thing. but the spark is weak and it won't fire. the harness is a complete mess thanks to the previous owners so I'll be starting fresh and making a simplified one. anyway, I suspect the ignitor is fried. could use parts and help, Thanks
Hunter

Edit: ive looked all over ebay for an ignitor with no luck

I don't have what you need, but make sure you have a strong battery.  This is a common problem with these bikes.

If I were you, I would get a newer wiring harness and CDI.
You'll have to buy a newer rotor and hand controls too.

But you'll have a better chance at getting something good.

well, thankfully for you, I have a working cam chain adjuster. sorry for the newb question but are the CDI and ignitor the same thing? Mine came with a Mitsubishi "ignitor" which doesn't look like the one in the Clymer manual and I thought the "decompression controller was the CDI.

CDI is the common misnomer... it is actually a TCI, transistor controlled igniter rather than a capacitor discharge ignition.
