Title: Damaged my throttle cable?
Post by och on 03/18/22 at 21:32:51

Was trying to install 2 inch risers, and had to pull on the handlebars somewhat hard, but I got it on. Started the bike, and noticed it idles higher than usual, but i didn't think much of it. Went to ride around the block to test out the new seating position, and in the end of the block started to u-turn, and as soon as I turned the handlebars, the throttle went WOT, I had to use the kill switch midturn. Now I took off the risers, but the idle stays very high, I not the throttle pulley stays about 1/4 inch away from the idle screw, and wont retract all the way. What the proper way to fix it?

Look at the routing. Look for a place where your cable is stuck in a pinch. Study it all the way to the carburetor

You likely pulled the outer part of the cable out of the socket somewhere.

Look to see if the outer cable is not fully seated under the rubber boot at the throttle end, at the carb.....and at the adjuster in the middle of the cable if your bike has one.

I brought it to the shop this morning, since the cables need to be extended for the risers. They will install steel braided lines for me.
