Title: I lost one of my nuts!
Post by springman on 05/10/22 at 08:10:47

I think I may have discovered the source of my oil leak.  Nut, item 15 from the attached illustration seems to be missing on my bike. Anybody know what size nut that is?

M8x1.25

but, you shouldn't loosing much oil thru there.
it's a drip, not a dribble.

Thanks Versy. I'll get that nut replaced, clean it up again, ride it, and see what happens.

The factory nut for that location has a flat flange on the nut (no serrations).

Clean up the threads on the stud and put a small amount of sealant on the threads and flange when your install it.

This link shows what the nut should look like....unfortunately they are out of stock.  (Most nuts you buy at a hardware or auto supply store will have a serrated flange that cuts into the head when installed....you don't want that).

Went to school with a guy who did an
O.J. Simpson style hurdle over a chaotic line, football firmly tucked in, looking Great goin over,, but the linebacker who had been knocked on hizzass with a knee up, which is where the halfback  parked half of his sack, also lost a nut.

Thanks Dave. I replace with just a regular nut and after I put it on I thought maybe I should have put some lock tite on it. Rode it yesterday and today but I still see oil. I'll try cleaning it up again and maybe replacing valve cover gaskets. Or who knows what. >:( It runs great, just gets dirty (oily) rather quickly.
