Title: My Rat Bike Sort of ready.
Post by edgwoodri on 05/12/22 at 05:03:31

'Ive been tinkering with this bike. Just an around the neighborhood ride. Many ideas came from this board. I think of it like the Schwinn Sting Ray I had in 6th grade, if I could I would just lay it on it's side when I jump off.

edgewoodri, Not really a Rat bike looks like a pretty clean build. Good luck with it.

Not sure how everyone defines "Rat" but the bike looks good.

 Also that's the PTX right?

Yes it is PTX. My favorite Lounge.
By Rat, I mean not fancy,, or polished up, just  ride around and not worry about it.

Intake manifold design is important to performance. The pulses created by the intake valve matter. The Volume Between the air filter and the valve needs to be at least the volume of the cylinder.

What is that volume?
650cc?

I'm not some carburetor smart guy and I'm not the guy to try to teach something here. I'm
Just an Old Guy who has seen stuff that should be paid attention to IF the goal is squeezing the most outta these things.. I'm just tossing out food for thought for you. There are hours and hours of YouTube videos on exhaust design and theory and intake design theory. I'm just trying to help you get what you are looking for.

Yes, 18" got them from Dave here on the site.
Tires are some cheap Chinese from Amazon. Fine for me I don't ride but around my little village.
Seat is held on with Velcro for now, this weekend Ill do something better.

Great build, Edgwoodri! I really like a lot of what you’ve done here. Any details, progress photos, etc. would be very welcome! How do you like riding it post-modifications?

Well, it’s good that you kept it, a very cool custom resulted from that decision!

Thank you.

Took it out for a ride into Providence today. Lots of people gave me the thumbs up. At one stop light a fella said " Is that street legal?"
"Who knows" i said.
It's certainly a lot of fun for this 63Yr old.
