Title: I've splashed my situation in here Post by justin_o_guy2 on 06/15/22 at 06:56:44 So, since I did that, unwisely or whatever, I feel kinda like I should share where it is now. Had a visit with the surgeon's assistant yesterday. She walked us through what the X-Rays and MRI showed and told us what they would do. It's gonna be a pretty good piece of work. The plan is Remove two disks, replace with titanium spacers. Fuse some places, using three rods and six screws. So, that is where I allowed myself to get to before I started asking for help. Why am I sharing this? If you are getting older and lived a physical, challenging life and you're seeing yourself change the way you live in order to not get up tomorrow and discover that the little bit of stuff you did today has you in a place where you have to limit yourself, and let things waiy, well, don't Wait,,get yourself to a doctor, get an MRI, find out what is going on in there. I should have been dealing with this a few years ago. Good news is She said that if I do the physical therapy Right, I'll be able to Do stuff again.. If you're limited in your life and you're having to do a little today and then you have to wait a few days before you can do anything,, don't Wait.. |
Title: Re: I've splashed my situation in here Post by ohiomoto on 06/15/22 at 13:26:53 Wow, that is one hell of a work order! Good luck with the surgery and wishing you a speedy recovery. When are you scheduled? |
Title: Re: I've splashed my situation in here Post by justin_o_guy2 on 06/15/22 at 13:42:21 Dunno.. Waiting to hear from the doctor's scheduler. I'm not going to just wait, though. Gonna be proactive,, and give them a call. |

Title: Re: I've splashed my situation in here Post by justin_o_guy2 on 06/15/22 at 21:21:27 If I had more time, maybe I would shop ,, I'm satisfied. Tyler is loaded with geezers. Plenty of medical facilities. Thanks folks. |
Title: Re: I've splashed my situation in here Post by TheSneeze on 06/15/22 at 22:36:11 JoG, the best of luck with your coming journey. PT is a motha, getting back only a little of what you had even worse. We all have our journeys. Maybe some day we will share ours. Until that happens, I wish you the best and keep your head down. The struggles now are worth the time to come. It is worth it. |

Title: Re: I've splashed my situation in here Post by justin_o_guy2 on 06/16/22 at 16:42:37 Thank You,, Aaand, when I get able to study and inventory the piles of parts I'll figure out what I need to put a Coupla bikes on the road and have a sale. |
Title: Re: I've splashed my situation in here Post by Ruttly on 06/16/22 at 20:08:39 If your up for surgery , lots of vitamin “C” , helps your flesh heal in a hurry. P/T sucks but keep at it it pays off. I’ve had enough surgeries I’m thinking of having a zipper installed to cut down on healing time. |
Title: Re: I've splashed my situation in here Post by justin_o_guy2 on 06/16/22 at 20:27:11 Okay, I have just over a week to get ready. We don't make C,and I'm sure I'm not getting enough from my diet. I'll ask the wifely unit if we have some, if not, I know where to get it. We have a health food store we've been using for about 16 years. They have quality stuff. Thanks for the heads up. Generally I heal well and quickly. I kinda think it's because this body needed to heal pretty much every day. It's trained. Too bad I didn't train it to not do Stewpid stuff. |
Title: Re: I've splashed my situation in here Post by springman on 06/20/22 at 14:33:55 Hey JOG, are you implying something about Stew? ;D :o ;D |
Title: Re: I've splashed my situation in here Post by ohiomoto on 06/20/22 at 18:06:32 Stew?? Has he been on here lately? Batman has been MIA for a while now too. Sure hope everyone is still out there and doing well. |
Title: Re: I've splashed my situation in here Post by Dave on 06/21/22 at 03:16:59 Jog.......Hang in there buddy! That sure sounds like some major work you need done. Physical therapy needs to be done - my father in law had his knees replaced and never did his therapy........he would just fall into chairs as he never got his knees to bend or recovered his strength. We are praying for you and a full recovery (and pretty nurses). I text and chat with Stew and he and Paula are fine. He is very busy at work and home.....they are fostering a young boy and it keeps them both really busy. |
Title: Re: I've splashed my situation in here Post by justin_o_guy2 on 06/21/22 at 07:37:30 The main thing they want from me is to walk. I asked about PT and they don't even prescribe it. Nobody is coming out and no office visit for me. I'm okay with that. I'm a self motivated guy. I'm Gonna be working to regain mobility. Thanks all for the concern. The hard part for me is managing to Not overdo it. |
Title: Re: I've splashed my situation in here Post by justin_o_guy2 on 06/22/22 at 10:18:48 I asked a friend what to do, because I wanted to take my bike down dirt roads and there were stretches of sand, he said scoot back and accelerate, keep the front light. I'm thinking that would be good advice for a critter encounter. The four legged curb stop, the armadillo, would probably be disastrous to hit with brakes on. |
Title: Re: I've splashed my situation in here Post by TheSneeze on 06/28/22 at 14:55:45 Keep us posted on your progress, JoG. We are all pullin' for ya! |
Title: Re: I've splashed my situation in here Post by justin_o_guy2 on 06/28/22 at 15:51:59 Thanks, I will,, if they manage to get the BP down and the liver enzymes stay In Bounds, surgery is set for July 13. |
Title: Re: I've splashed my situation in here Post by TheSneeze on 06/28/22 at 19:41:40 Fingers crossed... |
Title: Re: I've splashed my situation in here Post by TheSneeze on 08/17/22 at 10:40:00 So you are recovering now? Was the surgeon happy with his work? Hope it went as good as can be expected... |
Title: Re: I've splashed my situation in here Post by justin_o_guy2 on 08/17/22 at 19:20:57 The surgery went well, took about 2.5 hours. Just went to the follow up yesterday. Took X-Rays, everything is right where they left it. Hard to know what is going on with the pain, since I have pain meds. There is a spot, deep down In the left Glute that was waking me up, burning, and it's weird Havin pain that feels like it's running down the inside of my leg. It's not up close to the skin. That doesn't even look reasonable, but it's how it feels. Left thigh doesn't feel like it's actually a part of me, almost wooden,, kinda like when something is asleep and starts waking up. It feels weird. All that said, it's SO MUCH BETTER than what I was dealing with. I'm starting to have curiosity and desire to Do stuff again. I'm not drinking myself into oblivion every day anymore. The real thing is I can get up from a chair without sound effects or having to use my fingers to climb my thighs, while I made little girly noises. I'm so glad I got it done. And thanks for asking. The other day the mail chick drove to the house, so I went out to get it. I was trying to decide if it was something I could carry or not. Told her I was recuperating from back surgery, turns out her husband is going for surgery and he is goin to have the same Dr. That's some thin odds right there. |
Title: Re: I've splashed my situation in here Post by TheSneeze on 08/19/22 at 14:24:28 Nerves are scary things to be cutting around. Really happy for you that you are feeling improvements already. Please don't drink when on pain meds. Too many die that way. And trust me, I know how darn easy it is to drink. I'm a bit too fond of bourbon myself! Take it slow, and follow ALL the post op instructions. Even if you "feel" good enough to try something outside of the allowable activities. Time is your friend here, don't push it. |
Title: Re: I've splashed my situation in here Post by justin_o_guy2 on 08/19/22 at 15:03:25 Good advice, I know, but I didn't get to needing that surgery by sitting around. Today was a good day. Busy ,I can pick small, light things up. Climbed up a few steps on a ladder today. I didn't even think about it till I was up there.. I'm gathering stuff together to build a Coupla dehydrators. I'm limiting myself to two beers and I'm not gonna croak. I appreciate your concern, I do. Gonna be sore tomorrow! It's a lot easier to be happy when you can sit down and stand up without grunting and groaning. |
Title: Re: I've splashed my situation in here Post by kirsties40 on 08/20/22 at 10:46:16 Take care of yourself and thanks for the words of wisdom for us younger folks. |
Title: Re: I've splashed my situation in here Post by Ruttly on 08/20/22 at 12:27:48 Spine and joints , old n worn out , used too much when new. Swimming is best for exercise , walking not always best option soon after surgery. You did go to a real doctor this time not the self proclaimed local vet/witch doctor or was the wicked witch of west Texas , I’m sorry I can’t remember. So do your 2 beers at dinner time before , during or for dessert as your reward for living another day. Lots of water really helps joints n spine , anyway you can get it down , sometimes I use the little bottles that flavor the water for a change. If the beers are breakfast you’ll be sneaking beers all day , here’s a tip save your beers from Wed to Friday , Saturday have six beers for breakfast and still have 2 for din din. And maybe a good time to loose that 63 lb belt buckle too your spine would appreciate it ! |
Title: Re: I've splashed my situation in here Post by justin_o_guy2 on 08/20/22 at 20:09:39 I've been getting fresh lemons and juicing them, adding some Stevia, shoot the glass full with the cold water supply in the fridge. Drinking one now. It's a bigger glass than the regular ones you see at the average restaurant. I'm thinking this is #3 for the day. And yes, the surgeon has a really good reputation. He spent five years up North at a well known hospital, which I can't remember the name of, dadgummit |
Title: Re: I've splashed my situation in here Post by Ruttly on 08/20/22 at 23:04:44 Wow , a whole 5 years that’s real good. Keep moving and don’t do stupid stuff , lots of water |
Title: Re: I've splashed my situation in here Post by justin_o_guy2 on 08/21/22 at 06:31:22 He looks kinda mid fifties, looked around for negative comments, none that I could find. He's with Azalea Orthopedics, in Tyler, which is a Geezer Central kind of place. I was busy all day yesterday, got the shop over half way cleaned up. I can even pick stuff up off the floor now, as long as I sneak up on it slow and easy like. I figured I would be so sore today that I could not work on stuff. Nope,, looks like the shop will get some attention and the dehydrator build will get some action. I'm enjoying feeling engaged in life again. It's been a long time. |
