Title: Computer question
Post by justin_o_guy2 on 07/23/22 at 04:45:06

Howcumizzit that sometimes when I want to post a site address I have to copy and paste the whole thing, only to see it only pasted part of it, then I have to highlight the addy again, I have to get the cursor to land immediately following the last letter that made it when I hit paste, which means I have to adjust the font to the biggest screen size, then delete that, highlight, copy and paste the rest of it..

For example.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk

That is what it pasted when I highlighted the whole thing, hit Copy
Clicked in here, hit paste and Viola! Not what I wanted
So I go back to the site, highlight the whole address again, put the cursor just after the k in uk and hit the erase button till everything that did make the trip and paste for me is Gone, then I highlight the rest of the addy, hit copy, come back here, get the cursor immediately behind the k, put the finger on it, hold until it gives me the paste option, trying not to move the cursor, hit paste and now I have to get the cursor immediately in front of the bracket for Either

.        .      Orhttp://.

Then get rid of any spaces between the addy and the brackets.

/sciencetech/article-11035309/Scientists-create-strange-new-phase-matter-occupy-TWO-time-dimensions.html

Trying to land the cursor between the brackets is pretty much impossible.

. Or. [img][/img]

So I hit one and hit space bar about ten times to give me room to paste, sometimes twice,,
It's been a rough road, sometimes I still don't Win it.
If Kindles had a mouse, Ohh how much easier would that be!!??
Any Kindle users have a less tedious approach?

Ooopsies, killt a bracket.. Dammitall!

Since nobody offered any suggestions about how to do it with less hassle I'm gonna conclude either
That is just how much hassle is involved if you're using a Kindle
Or, by the time I got done explaining how I do it
I had thoroughly confused anyone who wanted to help me out.
Thanks for reading it, or trying to read it. I guess I'm gonna just have to muddle on through!
Maybe now you folks can understand how sometimes I just can't get it right.

I forgot about this, what kind of Kindle do you have?

I don't know how it is with your ken doll, but when I create a set of brackets the cursor is automatically in the middle.

I don't do much on my Kindle except read. I DO use Linux as my OS, so it has other quirks that I had to get used to.

Ohh,it is, but I can't get contact made that lights up
Paste
Without being somewhere Not between brackets. So I hit the space bar to create a wide enough space to get it. When I'm trying to Backspace to get rid of the spaces I have to embiggenate the screen and then figure out how to get the cursor immediately next to the bracket.

It's a Kindle fire

Do you know what version of Kindle Fire?

 Does it have bluetooth?

Honestly, I don't know..
If it does, would that help?

Okay, wife says it has Bluetooth

maybe a bluetooth keyboard is in your future.

Ok on your reader do this:

From anywhere, swipe down from the top and select All Settings.
Go to Device Options and select Device Info.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=GK33S847NN4V6Y83

Then we can see if there is a compatible Bluetooth mouse and keyboard.  That should solve your problems.

If you don't want to go the Bluetooth route you can get an adapter that converts the charge port to a USB slot that you could plug a wired mouse into.  Depending on what charge port you have (USB-C or Micro-USB) I can just send you the appropriate adapter.

Just woke up, I'm feeling a question or two, I'm not ready right now and thanks

Mine charges sitting on a plastic, V shaped stand

Look at the picture in this article.  Your device should plug into one of these shapes inside that V- stand:

You talking about where a charger would plug in?

Okay, I went and read that.
Plugin in the charger requires you orient the plug. It definitely has a top and bottom.
And now I see that plug does more than just charge

Verslagen, my daughter has one of those, it folds up.
If I had a mouse, that would make life better.

All I need to know is what kind of plug goes into your device.  If you can't find out what Kindle you have through the settings or a purchase receipt/box etc. then I need to know how it is powered.

That V-shaped charger most likely has a plug that sticking out of it that the Kindle interfaces with.  It's either USB-C or Micro-USB, the article previously provided provides a visual of the differences.

If it is an induction charger with no ports then you just need to see what female port style you have on the Kindle itself.

The picture shows both, but I'm at a disadvantage with the size, even embiggenated.
But the text tells me which one.
The one on the left isn't polarized
Plug it in, take it out, flip it over
Still goes in
The one on the right has to be plugged in one way and one way only
Plug it in
Take it out
Flip it over
You ain't plugging it in that way.

That is what I have,
The one on the right

The V shaped charger doesn't physically interface. Set the Kindle in it a bit off to one side and get a red light
Center it up, green light.

Aaand I just remembered I was using a charger that plugged into the Kindle and I had to buy a new cable and the guy told me it was a Micro USB

If you get a micro-USB to USB adapter you could plug in any mouse.

I am not sure when Kindle Fire started using mouse drivers but I think it was early on.  Chances are any mouse will plug into that thing and work.

What if I had a wireless mouse?
I'm not bothered by the Kindle keyboard, I'm sloow as molasses, no matter what keyboard I have. My daughter can get things paired, heck probably anyone in my family can,, sept me.

"Wireless" mouse comes in primarily two versions.  Bluetooth, which as you suggest could just be paired.

Or the wireless mouse that has a small receiver the plugs in via USB.  So if you want to avoid a plug conversion you would need the Bluetooth mouse.
