Title: Re: MM's next Guzzi! Post by MMRanch on 12/14/22 at 19:08:08 Hay I get loosey guzzi just looking at it !! :) Really , I think that might be Dave's Guzzi ... :-? It might be a bit fancy for me ? That 100+ HP and still keeping the low RPM Guzzi Grunt seems "Impressive" to me. ............... I think back to a Yamaha SX-650 I had in the 1970's. It was rated at 53HP and would run 130mph if I tucked down out of the air flow. https://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/yamaha/yamaha_xs-2%2071.htm That 115mph would have been , pushing a windshield and ridding double. Mine had the high dome pistons , the biggest front sprocket , and had lost those factory mufflers for some fiberglass packed mellow sounding reverse cones (might have made a few extra horses ?) What I'm getting at is my V7II is a 50HP - (ish) / 400# bike with the 2 valves per cylinder , the 1970's style Heron Head design and still pulls good. I can imagine that new Guzzi 1000 must feel GREAT when ya roll the throttle open even just above an idle !! It's got more than double the HP !!! 8-) . I'll have to agree that my Guzzi V7 is one of -- if not -- THE Best handling of all the bikes I've ever had. Like OldFeller said before I even bought it : "They're made to run the Italian Alps with !" :) |
Title: Re: MM's next Guzzi! Post by wheelbender6 on 12/16/22 at 15:07:09 Id love to have a V7 Stone. Its a relatively simple bike but has the sideways vee engine and classic Italian styling. Valves and plugs are easy to reach. Shaft drive. Nice. |
Title: Re: MM's next Guzzi! Post by pg on 12/16/22 at 17:21:21 I was looking at a V7 Stone as well, especially now that it has an 850cc engine. Do you like yours MM, any thoughts? Best regards, |

Title: Re: MM's next Guzzi! Post by MMRanch on 12/19/22 at 11:02:35 Sorry for the delay PG I was looking at a V7 Stone as well, especially now that it has an 850cc engine. Do you like yours MM, any thoughts? ......................... The short assure is : Yes ! I have the 2016 model I bought New in 2017. In 2017 Guzzi went to the "Hemi-Head" design ... The HP went up , but the "STONE (TUBELESS)" went flat Black trim and lost the tachometer . So I hunted up a left-over 2016 with the Chrome mufflers and w/tachometer. There were only 4 left in the USA. Closest one was in Penn. so I went and got it. :) It's not the best MPG bike in its class (50-55mpg USA gallon) but I have got up to 63 in the warm summer back-roads type of ridding. The factory seat is as good as any other factory seat , but I thought enough of the bike to buy a Corbin "Gunfighter and Lady" seat for it and am still glad I did. $$$+ more $$$ :-X The SHAFT DRIVE is nice. Everything is enclosed except for the air vent on top of it. A lot of guys put a short 3/16 hose on it and run it up under the seat or breather box for dusty environments but I don't live on a gravel road and don't ride them much. Oil changes on the shaft drive unit is really simple. Heck , the Entire Bike is a simple machine . The support on the WildGuzzi web site is "Top-Notch" . I downloaded the program for the Dia. for free and got the wire to connect to my computer for about $25.00. One time I had a speed sensor go bad and the program directed me on what to get and it was a easy $14.95 fix. To sum things up , let me say this : Every bike I've had ... at some point has had me thinking "What in the WORLD WERE THEY THINKING". Well , the Guzzi is well thought out , and their "V" motor has been around long enough for all the "BUGS" to have been worked out. Its an iconic bike with 50+ years of history with the "V motor". You know Guzzi started in 1921 . Think of a 1960's car with a strait shift , made with modern material ! It's that simple. Imagine a Female Pancake BMW that hasn't gone through the "change" yet. Guzzi cylinders still stand up and play nicely. Did I mention the "Italian Alps" Handling and the "5.5 gallon tank" or "Light Weight" . The Bike has near 30,000 miles on it and still runs better every day. ? 8-) |
Title: Re: MM's next Guzzi! Post by pg on 12/19/22 at 14:31:02 Thanks for a real nice summary. Their sure is a lot to like! I have my eye on a left over, but I am not just ready yet............. Best regards, |
