Title: VPN Post by MMRanch on 07/12/23 at 18:58:55 A couple years ago I got locked out of the SuzukiSavage.com page . So I would go to the local library to log on once a week to check in . Then I found out what a VPN is. Now I can appear to be from any country in the world and/or from different city's in those countries. The Avast internet protection plan has a lot of good stuff built into it. My bank requires me to turn the VPN "OFF" before they let me sign-in. I'd guess they have been tricked before by people pretending to be other folks. So I have to turn it on and off ... depending on what I'm trying to do. This has been a public service announcement. ;D .............. Good luck Versey ! :) |

Title: Re: VPN Post by J Mac on 07/14/23 at 09:58:38 A VPN is a useful privacy tool. It's a myth that only people hiding something or who are involved in nefarious activities need them. A VPN combined with a good browser with privacy controls (Brave, TOR, etc.) helps prevent you from being tracked by Google, Meta, etc. It could also protect you from hacking if you were using your laptop or phone on airport or hotel wifi. I use NordVPN. It is one of the best rated ones, but there are several available. |
Title: Re: VPN Post by MMRanch on 07/14/23 at 18:24:14 I "think ? " Versey is locked out ??? Like I was a year or two back , I'm thinking he is a lot more computer savvy than I am but I suggested the VPN as the solution that worked for me. ............. I do get to a motel once in a while , from now on I'll be sure my VPN is turned on before I log-on to MOTEL 6's free WiFi. ;) ...... Hay , usually when I travel I bring my Chrome-Book , and leave the computer at home in the safe. Does Chrome Book need a VPN ? Where is OldFeller (computer GaRoo) when we need him ? |
Title: Re: VPN Post by J Mac on 07/14/23 at 19:40:17 Yes, the Chromebook can benefit from a VPN just like a laptop, phone (wifi or LTE), Fire Stick, Smart TV, etc., can. An interesting use for a VPN is *sometimes* allowing for viewing of geo-locked IPTV content. I did that once or twice when I was locked out from a streamed sports broadcast due to not being in the source region. It doesn't always work though, for reasons outside the scope of this discussion. |
Title: Re: VPN Post by verslagen1 on 07/19/23 at 08:57:01 Hello folks, I have access again thru a free vpn. Best I can figure, the issue was caused by trying to post a link with script in it... don't do that! Being the good guy that I am... I was trying to figure out how to post pic's from a new host and was trying the different links. It seems that when you are banned, it's thru your ip address and there's no way to get off the banned list. Only thing to do is change your ip address thru a vpn or new location. BTW: providing a link to past content to someone not able to use links is torcher. |

Title: Re: VPN Post by verslagen1 on 07/20/23 at 22:41:22 privado vpn it has a limit of 10gb a month so I'm trying to use it sparingly. if I only use it for here, it's little to none, but if it gets left on I doubt I'll last a month. So I'm just logging on a couple times a day. |

Title: Re: VPN Post by verslagen1 on 07/25/23 at 21:59:09 not really impressed with it though... but it's free. several spam messages a day reminding me to upgrade and today, oops I used up all my data and a few hours later oops my data was refreshed and I got the same amount before I ran out. oops, what are my other options. I'll hang with them for awhile and see what other bs they pull. |
