Title: Pulleys-R-Us!
Post by Armen on 10/20/23 at 17:21:27

Oh boy,
It’s time to start whittling Kawasaki pulleys. I have a bud with both a dry bead blaster and a wet vapor blaster. These pulleys tend to be pretty disgusting when I get them.
Now to fire up the lathe….

Absolutely.  One of the reasons I stopped making these is that it takes a lot of time to find/buy good used pulleys, and then it takes a lot of time to get the grease and dirt off them before you can even begin to machine them.  I was just spending too much time working on stuff for other people!

I am glad you are still making them for folks.....the pulley really is a great upgrade for anyone who travels on a highway!

Yup, I start by putting them in the ultrasonic tank for a long time. Can’t put all that crud in the bead blaster.

I used to let them soak in a coffee jug filled with diesel or gasoline, then hit them with a pressure washer after they had soaked for a week or two!

If there is a bright side.....all that oily crud keeps the pulleys from getting rusty!

Try undiluted Simple Green. Soak it overnight , light brushing , rinse , wd40 when dry. Must be submerged completely.

Hey - quick question about the pulley. Does the Kawa pulley make aligning the belt different when using the straight edge along the rear pulley method?

I found it hard to get a good read with the nubs on the outer face. And my straight edge kept hitting the mount for the upper pulley guard, leaving just a really small spot up top where I could check alignment.

I haven't had any trouble using the straight edge method with my Kawasaki pulley.
