Title: Problem with ANTs Post by easymoney on 10/06/24 at 11:20:12 I park my Savage in a corner of an apartment parking lot. The grass in that area has ants and they are very attracted to my bike. It is always crawling with them. I put ant killer packs in the tool box which helped some, but still they come. Swatting ants at 50 mph in heavy traffic sucks! Any suggestions? |
Title: Re: Problem with ANTs Post by ThumperPaul on 10/06/24 at 11:38:42 Couple ideas.... 1) Kill the freakin' ant mound near where you park. 2) Spray the underside of the bike with "Ortho Home Defense". It's fairly odorless and doesn't hurt paint (at least not my baseboards in the house). There are only 3 points on the bike that they can climb up on the bike from - front tire, rear tire, side stand. Spray the tires and side stand with Home Defense. What is it with ants liking electrical stuff? For whatever reason, the little bastards like the electrical panel on our outside AC condensing unit. I have to fight the little assholes all summer. |

Title: Re: Problem with ANTs Post by zevenenergie on 10/06/24 at 12:49:33 You can park your bike on a verry hairy carpet. That will stop them. And sprey the carpet whit poison. |
Title: Re: Problem with ANTs Post by easymoney on 10/06/24 at 14:39:26 Too many pets in the area (including mine} for most stuff, I sprayed some pet friendly "ant killer". but it was friendly to ants too. As far as attacking the hills, total ant biomass in the area (this is Florida) is probably as much as me and the motorcycle together, My car is parked right next to the bike but the ants don't seem to be attracted to it. It's irrigated here too, (and hurricaned lately) so a small grass fire seems difficult. |
Title: Re: Problem with ANTs Post by ThumperPaul on 10/06/24 at 15:14:55 What's wrong with the pets in Florida (brain damage)? Our pets in Texas have enough sense not to stand in ant mounds and eat pesticide. ;D :o 8-) Park in a different place away from the ants if you don't want to kill the little bastards. :-[ :'( Get a pet Anteater to guard your bike? Here's a Texas-sized ant mount. Are yours this big? |

Amdro is killer stuff! Works great! At least he doesn’t have a wasp problem, right JOG!? Reminds me of a story riding with my buddy. We’re doing about 60-65 down some po-dunk country road and all of a sudden he looks like a Kung-Fo Fighter on his bike. He whips it over to the dirt shoulder and throws his jacket on the ground. I pull over and I’m like “what heck is going on!?”. Not just 1, but at least 3 hornets got up his sleeves and around the neck. He got stung up pretty good. After digging out the stingers, we resumed our casual “uneventful” ride. |
Title: Re: Problem with ANTs Post by JOG on 10/06/24 at 18:46:01 This year was just The Worst for getting stung. Two Events with wasps and one with the underground yellow jackets that I didn't even Know were a thing. Those little guys are fast. Four in the head, four across the back, one under the arm.. All in a,matter of seconds. At least I didn't get dog bit. FWIW,fire ant love wires. They eat insulation. |
Title: Re: Problem with ANTs Post by LANCER on 10/07/24 at 03:16:25 Fire ants are straight from the devil. I had to deal with them every day in S Carolina. The only good fire ant is a dead fire ant. Amdro and a couple of other products work, but you must be diligent and watch for new mounds All the time. Feed them constantly so they will all die. |

Agree, fire ants are Straight from the Devil!! Very prevalent here in Houston too! You can’t ever let up on the killing! They must ALL DIE!! Bastards!! This was one of those weird years when the “crazy ants” (or “piss ants” as my grandpa called ‘em) decided to pop up! They want to come inside whereas the fire ants are content to kill you in the backyard! The indoor/outdoor Home Defense stuff works good on the piss ants! You really don’t see the big army ants here in Houston. They must like cooler dryer weather. |
