Title: shock recommendations?
Post by TheBabyDerp on 10/18/24 at 08:50:01

Anyone got experience with Progressive 412? I figured the ones for s50 would fit a savage.

Riding mainly 2 up. 320 pounds total between the two of us. Honestly just looking for comfort. This stock suspension is tearing me up  solo on some roads let alone the both of us.

I was thinking. 11.5 inch heavy duty? Or does anyone have a better recommendation?  I don't mind the rear being lifted a little over stock.

progressive suspension makes a couple for the sportster that work.

I used the 11" for an extra 1/2" of travel.

412-1005 for about $150 if you're under 200#
412-4233  if you're over or ride double.

They make a metric adapter for them, but a .030" wall tube with the right ID is all you need to adapt them to the savage.

Now if you want posh for the over 200 crowd

440-4022

The superslab that I travel on has bumps that I needed to stand up to get thru.  with the 440's I'm sitting the whole way.

Yeah they ship to the US I just got a set. Pay attention to the bushing sizes though they sent me the wrong bushing but when I reached out to them they sent the correct ones.

which model did you get? they seem to have quite a few options.

28001SA

Make sure if you purchase them you give them a call about the bushings. They sent me the wrong ones, the OD of the mounting bolts for the savage are 14mm.

Sounds good. I just realized they offer the same shock but with several different visual styles, so performance wise they are all equal. I do like the fact that they are tuning it specifically for your setup based on the details you give them. I may give those a try. 268usd shipped to the US for those.... My wallet definitely is leaning towards these over Progressive..

Anyone else here have experience with Hagon's? Are Progressives 412 worth the ~$100 premium? I could be swayed either way.

Progressive are not tuned to your use - they are generic and likely made for a larger cruiser.  The standard springs on the 412's were far too stiff on my Cafe' bike and my 170 pound body, and I had to spend even more money to get a lighter set of springs.

I would try the Hagon.

That's what I am thinking. I plan to try Hagon. 100 dollar savings even after international shipping is significant. They also offer fork springs tuned based on the weights you give them. Can put that savings towards fork springs.

I reached out to them about this. they offer both 12mm and 14mm ID bushings, but I guess they send out 12mm by default. I am assuming I need the 14mm for a 2012 s40.

You can get bushings on eBay if you need to:

Shock recommendations?
Having had several I will straight up tell you, if it's got Anything to do with spark plugs, AVOID it. Anything over 120 is really rough. And FFS, stay outta the psych ward.

I ended up getting the Hagons. Wow. For 270 dollars shipped to the US they are great. Night and day difference over stock.

Comfort mods so far: Shocks, seat lift, jodys 4 inch forward controls. The bike is actually comfortable enough to enjoy at longer distances now.
