Title: Ryca rearsets - updated brake stop? Post by thomasoconnor19 on 11/14/24 at 19:17:40 I have some Ryca parts bought in 2013 and I have their rearsets without a brake stop. I heard they updated their design at some point to add a brake stop. Does anyone have pictures of this design? |

Title: Re: Ryca rearsets - updated brake stop? Post by Dave on 11/15/24 at 02:14:07 I have the RYCA setup on my Cafe' bike, and I built a replacement aluminum clamp with a built in brake stop. It works really well - but it does require that you have a pretty good supply of tools to make it. I removed the round clamping sleeve that holds the pedal in place, and made one from aluminum that has a bump for drilling and tapping a stud to act as the brake stop. This required several tools (band saw, drill press, tap, files and drum sander) to get it built. |
Title: Re: Ryca rearsets - updated brake stop? Post by Dave on 11/15/24 at 03:32:27 Initially the stop was just the metal bolt - but the "click" sound every time I let off the brake was annoying, and the impact would slowly cause the clamp to rotate and loosen the mounting bolt for the peg. I added the rubber tube as a sleeve to quiet the noise and cushion the impact. Eventually when I had the location to my liking I added a small screw on the backside to stop the collar from rotating and lock it into place. |

Post by Dave on 11/15/24 at 03:35:56 The cable is to activate the brake light, and the setup is a bit weird looking - but it allowed the cable to be installed as straight as possible. The inner cable is mounted stationary - the moving brake cable causes the cable sleeve to move. This functions the same way as the normal cable would - but it is not the common way cables are activated. |

Post by Dave on 11/15/24 at 03:40:53 You might be able to duplicate this by making a plate that mounts behind your rearset pedal and has a hole drilled/tapped for the screw that I used as a stop. This would move your peg/pedal out a small amount - I would think that 1/8" steel would be strong enough as the return spring is not very strong. |

Think I redrilled anchor point for backing plate spring and readjusted cam , yes rear brake operates moving pedal up or down. I’ve gotten use to it , put my toe under brake pedal so I don’t roll backwards on incline and that’s about all I use the rear brake for. But a simple solution to that problem I’ve learned to live with , yeah I’ll steal that ! |
