Title: 2025 Rides Post by verslagen1 on 11/18/24 at 11:29:19 Hey... what are we doing in 2025? Here's a spot in scenic Az https://familydestinationsguide.com/scenic-highway-arizona/?fbclid=IwY2xjawGoQexleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHYdfq77Zjs7KtIkIztnRmCQNlQzPTpt--1c4-IcWb_nf_3lblACV8FUPcQ_aem_9Vngq6mpLFft1yL8qMsQoQ https://www.motorcycleroads.com/motorcycle-rides-in/arizona |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by TheBabyDerp on 11/18/24 at 11:50:18 Looks sweet. I need to visit Arizona. I am planning a ride up the Dragon. Haven't done it on a motorcycle yet. |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 11/19/24 at 13:35:22 Hi Versey :) I don't know how your found that "Gem" of a Ride , but I'm glad you did ! ;) As long as we don't try it in the Monsoon Season : "Summer brings the drama of monsoon storms, where lightning puts on better shows than any fireworks display." A few weeks before or after either way is OK with me . I'll bring a rain suit anyway ! ::) Hay Lancer You want to ride-share from your house ? :) Will be glad to meet ya BabyDerp ! Hopefully YouzGuyz and the Texas group can join us . ;) |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 11/19/24 at 13:52:58 I may need to go to Catalina Highway (Sky Island) Arizona,United States, If we get close to it ? :) https://www.motorcycleroads.com/motorcycle-roads/arizona/catalina-highway-sky-island?s=52 |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 11/19/24 at 21:31:14 So I found this site that puts together a nice ride yearly for the last two years. It's published for all to see and would be easy to do anytime . The one last year was the Black Hills and Sturgis area. Here is 2025's ride. https://sbba2025-80.webselfsite.net/home?fbclid=IwY2xjawGqUt9leHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHa7S7vGkaCQ4DwWe9iKbP1uKGvkiV8tmfLdtHQpQ4gZvT6u6KwZhHo4JJw_aem_I8EzQcNQ7D5095QclQjZpg but we've already been there and done that ! https://sbba2024-61.webselfsite.net/home Maybe later ? ..................... So , First thing in 2025 (If we don't get Nuked) would be : Arizona‘s State Route 89A is where Mother Nature shows off her best work, serving up jaw-dropping views with a side of adventure! Versey , did you find us an affordable place to stay yet ? I'm Ok with the "Camping Cabin" low budget option but can pitch in with what-ever we find , If I need to join the hunt for us a place let me know. ;) |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by LANCER on 11/20/24 at 03:14:20 “Hay Lancer You want to ride-share from your house ? Smiley“ ******** Hey MM, we could do that. |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by Dave on 11/20/24 at 03:37:36 Deb and I spent 10 days in Tucson in the fall of 2017 when I retired from my full time job. We rented a motorcycle for a couple of days and Serowbot was our tour guide for those rides.....he did a great job showing us the good roads and scenic areas. The area had some really fun roads to ride, as well as fun touristy things to do. The Titan Missile Museum, the Desert Museum, The Aircraft Bone Yard and we visited the old mining town of Bisbee where the Copper Queen mine is located. It would be easy to spend a week in that area alone. |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by springman on 11/20/24 at 12:34:43 You can probably count me in depending on when the ride is done. And I'll be happy to let Hammer (Steve) know about it also. |

I didn't find any state park cabins yet, there was 1 hopeful but it turned out to be in the middle of nowhere and really meant to be a hiking base camp. I don't know if we'll ever find a place like the ranch house at shriners But I'm putting this on my bucket list as it's between Interstate 40 and Interstate 10. And I can take it on the way to lancers. We should think about Cody Wy (beartooth pass) and I'd also like to visit mt. rushmore |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 11/20/24 at 20:12:22 That may be two separate trips : https://www.distance-cities.com/distance-prescott-az-to-cody-wy They could be in the same year ? ;) |

Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 11/20/24 at 21:45:53 Seriously , I think we should lock in that four beds , Breakfast , and Wi-Fi for $100. / night ! We could slip in a 5th person on that couch looking of a thing if we needed too ! And go see a new area closer to your house. Hopefully YouzGuyz can come join us for a week ? Are you thinking in Spring ? I'm beginning to think life is too short ? I've only got 31 year's left , and those last 10 years being on a "Trail 125" ain't going to be good for no long trips !! :-[ |

Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by ThumperPaul on 11/22/24 at 05:48:23 Get well Youzguyz! I’ve thought about hitting you up and heading your way on a random ride in the Hill Country. Life just kinda gets in the way sometimes. I checked out a few of those routes in AZ using Google street view. Just a few miles down each route were all pretty awesome! Y’all keep brainstorming and I’ll keep following along. Springman - I can hear the Hammer now doing 100+mph down I10 from Atlanta to Arizona on his Harley! |

I am OK. Just recovering from neck surgery and should be able to ride again in a couple of weeks. It is just that I have to stay close to home. Day rides out of San Antonio only. If you want to go riding in this area sometime, just let me know. |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 11/23/24 at 00:30:51 Hay BabyDerp we have a few nice rides in my neighborhood ! Forgive me if you already said and I missed it but , are you ridding a LS650 ? I have two bikes one that can keep-up with a Savage and one that just runs nice ! ;D Either one keeps up with the Cages on the back roads. If you're used to flat ground ridding then I know where there are a lot of "Treets" to be found ! ;) I need warm spells to ride much in winter , my bones get froze-up more than they used to but I like a mid winter putt putt ride just as much as anybody else ! If you want to wait for Spring before making a Lynchburg/middle TN visit that's OK too ! ......... One of the early Spring rides I'd done has been a trip down the Natchez Trace. It's a long days ride from the hwy US-64 / Trace junction going to the Southern campground. There are three free running water campground on the Natchez Trace (each end and middle)., The speed limit is mild (National Parkway) and the scenery is Great (No driveway connections) ... just right for that time of year. |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by TheBabyDerp on 11/24/24 at 11:32:02 Oh yeah it's gonna be late spring. Likely May... I'm leaving the country in less than 2 weeks for a sweet trip. Even so, it's too cold for me to ride that far. Yes I am on a S40. |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 11/24/24 at 20:43:20 Even so, it's too cold for me to ride that far. Short Day Rides , is all I do this late in the year too. I went to "Bike Week" in Daytona" one year and it was so nice on the way there. On the way back I thought I was Freezing to Death. I had on my Rain Suit with all the clothes I could fit under it and was still COLD ! Never again ! ;D ................. I'm OK with the last of April. |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by TheBabyDerp on 11/25/24 at 06:01:06 I live in Mobile. an easy 500 miles from Daytona beach. I have never been. I have never really been a fan of large motorcycle gatherings like bike week. I'm sure I could make the ride just not worth it for me. |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by TheBabyDerp on 11/25/24 at 06:04:21 Yeah I gave up cold riding. I rode in the snow in Wisconsin and Indiana. Never again. I think 40 is my cut off for in-town riding. Maybe 50-55 for road trips. I have cold weather gear so some in-town riding 35-40 is very doable. But once you're out over an hour at highway speeds. NOPE. |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by LANCER on 11/25/24 at 10:36:21 I rode from Columbia SC to Pensacola FL just before Christmas, and when I left for the ride it was snowing. It took me at least 12 hours, stopping every hour for a 30 minute warmup each stop. I’m surprised I didn’t get frost bite in my fingers, face, etc. I rode my ‘78 SR500. It had frozen fingers as well, at least that’s what it claimed. |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 11/25/24 at 16:13:01 :-? Seems like those SR Yamahas had personality ? ;D Sometimes I think I should have got one of the 400cc models while they were new . Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by LANCER on 11/25/24 at 19:43:29 We all should have kept ALL the motorcycles we ever had. |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 11/25/24 at 20:53:42 ... ::) ... I don't know ... there were a couple of them I was glad to be rid of ! :) I had a three Yamaha's - all of them ended with Alt. problems . I was glad to see them gone. They all three had brush type alt's that burned out and new rotors cost more than the bikes were worth. One of them an RD250 I put a permanent magnet in place of the electro magnet and it work for non-headlight running but ran the battery down about 3 hours after dark. :P https://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/yamaha/yamaha_rd250%2074.htm So not knowing if the SR series bikes had electro or permanent magnets is why I never got a SR400. But all has turned out OK . So , did the SR series have brushes (electro) or Permanent Magnets ? |

I had 2 Yamahas. The V-star 650 I had was a great bike. Zero issues. The second was a Road Star 1600 and it was a piece of crap. It could be because I got a very crappy example. Maybe not well taken care of it. Never owned another Yamaha after that. |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 11/26/24 at 18:04:23 I loved the way my three Yamaha's ran. 1st Was a twin jet 100cc . Two cylinder Two cycle with a Brush type generator. The rotor burned out. https://www.cmsnl.com/yl1_model16878/info/?cjevent=bd9606f6ac6311ef810c055d0a82b824 2nd was a RD250cc . Two cylinder Two Cycle with an alternator - Surface brush electro magnet comparable to a modern auto alternator - the rotor burned out. So I got a Honda rotor and cut it to fit . It wasn't strong enough but worked just fine for day-time ridding. If I still had it ... I'd run an LED headlight and all would be just fine. https://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/yamaha/yamaha_rd250%2074.htm 3rd was a SX-650 , same alt. as the RD250 also the same problem. https://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/yamaha/yamaha_xs-2%2071.htm Permanent Magnet rotor from then on only ! Even now. |

Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by springman on 12/02/24 at 10:24:59 Yep. I'm sure Hammer would be tearing up the highway if he comes to join us anywhere. I've never had a Yamaha. Both my Honda and my S40 seem to be pretty good bikes. I did have an issue last night though. Went to my daughter's house late afternoon (about 25 minute ride) then came back early evening and apparently somewhere along the way my headlight bulb burned out. seems to be a common problem on bikes. I have never had it happen with an LED though. Funny enough, I had a sweet 2019 sportster a while back. Got a letter in the mail saying they would replace the headlight fixture for free. Oh well I already had a nice LED fixture in there . I think it's Sealight but I forgot. I found an LED that was guaranteed to work on our bikes. works great. It doesn't have the best of seal but boy can I see everything. Riding around at night with the stock light... maybe im just blind |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by springman on 12/03/24 at 07:23:37 For now I just replaced the bulb. But I agree, the LED headlights are so much better. My S40 has an LED headlight. I guess I should order one for the Honda. And like MM says, I should carry a good flashlight in my saddlebags. Or maybe there is some sort of spotlight that can connect to the battery tender wires?!? |

I keep a re-chargeable little light in my tank bag "Just-in-case" ? but I'd have to pull my phone light out to find the flash light ! ;D Life goes on no matter how I plan things !! ::) |

Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by ThumperPaul on 01/06/25 at 15:33:25 Happy New Year, Guys! Have y'all zeroed in on a Spring destination yet? Still thinking AZ? Is Sweetwater NC in consideration? I know y'all have been all over so I don't want to throw out places that might be redundant or boring for y'all. I'm just here thinking about tagging along. Are y'all thinking mid to late April? |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by Dave on 01/06/25 at 17:04:55 I really don't know of any good rides in Sweetwater, TN. That is the exit I take off I-75 when I go to the Tellico Plains area. It is not in the mountains and the roads don't seem to be anything special. Tellico Plains has a lot more to offer. My last 2024 ride was in Tellico Plains and we had a couple of good days of riding the roads to the south, and the Cherohala Skyway is always a nice ride, as long as it is not cold and windy! |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 01/06/25 at 18:20:01 That first post on this thread looked good, but I know its a long way. Post numbers 10 -- 12 of this thread , doing day rides out of Flag Staff is somewhere I haven't been yet. But , I'm easy to please with day rides out of anywhere just about. That ride up Magazine Mountain and "Area" was a nice week so "we did it again" ! :) |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by LANCER on 01/06/25 at 20:02:58 I’m good for most anywhere, I’m just happy God has enabled me to continue riding, and I’ve kind of gotten use to y’all, ya know ? |

Amen! And a nice way of saying you might be able to tolerate me for a few days if I can join. :-? AZ does look cool, but it is a haul for “most” of us I think. Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 01/07/25 at 20:56:17 Hay Paul we went to North West Arkansas for a couple of years . It was a little town called Jasper. It was near the Arkansas Grand Canyon. I might have a 6x10 conversion trailer to bring next time we return. The first time we stayed in a cabin, second time in a Grand Old Hotel and both times had a great time. Or I could pitch in on a Cabin with you fellers , I don't think my wife will go this year. Her mom is almost 101 years old this year. Paul , you know I live only a 1/2's days ride from the Tail of the Dragon / Two wheels of Suches area and my yard is nice and big with plenty of parking space. When my Son and Daughter in law move it to their house I'll have two extra bed rooms. |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by ThumperPaul on 01/08/25 at 14:21:37 Hey MM. I figured y'all had already explored parts of Arkansas. I know where Jasper is. My wife's mom lives in Huntsville about 50 miles away. Beautiful country. Smelly chicken ranches, but beautiful area. I was just throwing that out there. Maybe we should all come visit you! Wait, that's no adventure for you! |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 01/08/25 at 18:41:49 I'd like to have yall come visit . My extra cabin is full of furniture right now , till Son and Wife get their stuff moved out of it. But the two extra rooms both have beds one of them has son and wife now. There are nice places to ride local here , I'd be pleased to lead ya'll around for Day-Rides. Or From Houston it would be a nice ride over to Natchez MS , then spend the next day ridding up the Natchez Trace Parkway and meet me just short of Nashville TN (Leipers Fork) so I could show ya the way to Lynchburg TN where I live. Then we could ride over to the Tail of the Dragon the next day to meet Dave and who ever he brings. Its finally cold enough now I don't want go ridding for a while ! ;D |

MM, this is a super nice and gracious invitation. Thank you. You are in a beautiful area. It's been 15 years since I've been through TN. When we lived in Greenville SC for about 10 years (when I was a kid), we'd go to TN for an occassional camping/fishing trip some years. Even if we don't do a full blown group ride in your neck of the woods, I have to seriously consider your offer once your kids get settled in their own place and you're "empty nesting" again. You have me looking at the Natchez MS area. Wow, I never would have thought about this area. And the route there from Houston seems nice. Interested to see where the Spring group ride lands and if I can make it. |

Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by ThumperPaul on 01/14/25 at 04:58:36 And it has a ROUTE 66 address! For AZ, if I decide to ride out, I’d just have to find a route across Texas that doesn’t put me on I10 at 85+mph for 10 hours. Of course, you have a longer ride from TN, MM. I’m still following but not voting (I’m too non-committal). AZ is quite a haul for folks like you and Dave and anyone east of Mississippi River. But y’all are seasoned iron butts! |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by verslagen1 on 01/14/25 at 09:54:59 Sure, I'll go to flagstaff, less than half the usual drive. ;D But mike, check out those rooms, only 2 beds, probably queens. rollaways offered for $20, I don't think you're getting 4 people per room. |

I don't drive over 70 mph no matter how far the drive is or what the other folks think the speed limit should be ... it's just no fun going faster than my Gardian Angel can keep up ! IMHO that is. How about we try to find a Camping cabin kind of like the Kerrville one we found , but in where we ain't been yet. ? The Hunt is (a-foot) ! I can Truck to the camp-site if necessary. |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 01/16/25 at 20:15:51 Check out cabin # 50 , here : https://www.moabrimcampark.com/camping-cabins.htm If I'm reading this right it has 5 beds. price is for only 2 but $5.00 each for more. It might be OK in May if Putin ain't pushed the wrong button by then ? :-? They brag about having WiFi all over the grounds too ! :) If more than 5 of us want to go for a ride , then I can bring a 8'x10'x72" tent and a cot , $33 for a tent site and a hot shower seems fair enough to me. Person # 7 is on their own for their cot ... sorry ... ;D If we go this route ? |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by verslagen1 on 01/17/25 at 10:28:23 I looked at moab #50 and apparently no restroom in the cabin. That would make it the same as the cabins at Shriner which I'd be ok with. If the restroom was in the showers, then we'd be the furthest from it. ~$20 each for each nite. [smiley=thumbsup.gif] |

I may have to bow out depending on what y’all decide for dates. I’m just following along like a sweeper here. Once a date is settled, I can try to commit. From Houston, the Flagstaff AZ area is about 19 hours one way (2 days drive). I’m not into marathon driving 19 hours in 1 day. I gotta think about 4 days on the road to and from, and I don’t have an iron butt to attempt riding. |

Thanks for worrying about us - we are fine. This winter has been a bit cold and snowy, and I have had to clear the driveway more this year than anytime in the 30 years we have lived in this area. We will continue having overnight lows in the teens until a warmup coming in about a week. The worst part of the storm went south of us - we are OK but the poor folks in the mountain areas of Kentucky got flooded again. A lot of the damage from the hurricane storms last fall is still not repaired - winter makes it nearly impossible to get repairs made efficiently. The ground is saturated with water and frozen in some areas - so all the storm water runs off and floods the valleys. Since the hillsides are so steep and hard to build on - most of the cities and towns are built in the valleys and subject to flooding. The current flooding we are having is from the rising Ohio River. It rises pretty slowly as the streams and creeks from many states are feeding it. This photo is from a road about a mile from our house. It is in a valley along a creek and it is all pasture land, and the river water backs up over the road whenever the Ohio River rises. There are no houses in this area that get flooded - but the Twelve Mile Baptist Church at the west end of the road often has their driveway and parking lot flooded. The attached photo is the flood waters backed up onto the road near our friends house, about a mile from where we live. Our home is at an elevation of 678' msl, the 100 year flood elevation is 503' - so we are 175' above the flood waters. OK - brief topic hijack......now back to your travel planning. |

So I'm glad I didn't go. ................. The original tire on the Super Meter 650 had a little over 10k miles on it and didn't have enough miles left on it for a safe 2500 mile round trip to Daytona ... so I put a new tire on for the Bike Week Ride ... so ... I'm ready for what ever we do this summer now. The RE-650's fuel millage had dropped down into the high 50's mpg (dirty filter ?) , so I ordered the DNA Air intake kit to open up the air-way and I got that put on today. I expect an open air-way and warm weather will get me back into the 60's mpg again ? Yall remember I converted to BELT DRIVE on the 650cc bike ? So I'm locked into the gearing I have. Well it feels like it's geared too low compared to ridding a Savage with the 25 tooth front pulley so in an effort to raise the gearing I put a taller rear tire on it while I had to get a new tire anyway. That had the unintended result of raising the seat height a bit. So , I ordered a pair of shorter shocks made for this bike from a place over in England (Hitchcock's)https://accessories.hitchcocksmotorcycles.com/accessory-shop/cylinder-head/48439 It might have been cheaper to go to Florida for a week ? But maybe the bike will handle better ? :-? . |

I seriously doubt if our air filter can have much of an affect on mpg. The fuel injection will adjust and keep the fuel/air mixture proper....even if you filter is a bit dirty. What drives your speedometer/odometer? If you are changing your gearing and/or tire size and the speedometer/odometer uses the rear wheel for the signal - then you may need to make some adjustment to the readings for miles per hour and miles ridden in your mpg calculations. If the signal for the speedo is taken from the front wheel (or GPS), then changing the rear tire size or gearing won't have any affect on the readings. |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 03/08/25 at 20:45:45 Hay I found something about the Anti Lock Brake system. Mine is Dual channel , the front and rear have to agree on how fast we're going. Well , my front brake got to pulsing really bad as I got slower . I thought the rotor was warped it was so bad. So I put a new rotor and pads on $$$ didn't fix it. :( :( :( What did fix it was I took the sensors (front and rear) out ... and ... Cleaned them. The rear had it the worse , there was (for lack of a better term) a metal paste stuck to the end of the magnetic sensor. I'm guessing here but it looked and felt like a mixture of metal particles , chain lube , and road grit , leave out the chain lube for the front. So come oil change time I'll be removing the sensors for a cleaning. :) The taller tire was only 150/80-16 to 140/90-16 , and I wanted to lower it before , but now I HAVE to lower it ! ;) That Dave the speedometer was showing 62 when the GPS was showing 60 , so it's a step in the right direction ! ;) |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by springman on 03/10/25 at 14:50:03 Yep, Daytona would have been cheaper! ;D |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 03/11/25 at 21:12:26 What drives your speedometer/odometer? I think it's the front speed sensor but I don't know for sure ? In warm weather I'm getting 200 miles on a tank full as the fuel light comes on and the 4 gallon tank still has a little less than a gallon left so I'm still happy with it. I put the DNA air intake thingie on it yesterday and took it for a ride today... Its plain that the air hole is different , I open it up in second gear and hit 50 just about as quick as I opened the throttle (I think this tank of fuel's millage might not be as good as it should be ?) :-? |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by LANCER on 03/12/25 at 04:26:48 Do we have dates and location for this years ride ? |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 03/12/25 at 19:55:55 I'm still waiting on warm weather . My place is one Short day away from the Dragon / Two Wheels of Suches area . I have four recliners and one extra bed and lots of floor space to camp out on if we head east of middle TN. and there is near 200 acres to camp/park on. The Rock House is still full of furniture. I'd like to go west and spend a week looking around Moab Utah , I've never been in that area. It's two days west of Lancers house. But how many others would want to do a hand full of day rides in that area ? Look on Utube. Later in the year , I'd like to repeat this ride : https://sbba2024-61.webselfsite.net/home It seems these folk are GREAT at putting rides together ! but then again who else is interested in a hand full of day rides in that area ? If not this year then after more of us retire ? |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by ThumperPaul on 03/13/25 at 06:09:55 I’m with Lancer…dates and location. I’m surprised more members haven’t expressed interest. “Build it and they will come”, I guess. Right now the only members that are committed are Verslagen, Lancer, and MM Ranch. The Texas gang is on the fence or doubtful (me, Springman, and Youzguyz). Dave is going star gazing in West Texas and assisting border patrol. Moab is like a 10+ day commitment. Maybe, but dates? South Dakota in late August sounds “cool” compared to 115° heat index in Houston around that time. MM - Glad you got some new taller round tires! Those short square tires are no good. I blame winter blend gas for lower mpg. I’m down about 10% for Nov-Feb. |

When I return I will likely be taking some trips to the Breaks area at the KY/VA border - they have great rural roads with very little traffic as the area is not touristy. Also some trips to Tellico Plains and the Robbinsville area are likely. No specific dates as of yet. |

Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by ThumperPaul on 03/14/25 at 06:38:31 Feel sorry for you guys waiting for Spring. I actually got hot on a 95 mile ride yesterday. Youzguyz - thanks for clarifying, sorry I misspoke for you. I’ll check back with you around 4/25 when I’m out your way riding The Sisters with the Vulcan forum guys. The ride is 4/26 (Saturday) - busier, and not ideal, but…. Also, we’ll probably take a shorter ride the afternoon/evening of Friday, 4/25. Where is my weather crystal ball? Dave - your riding areas sound awesome. If you want some company, let us know dates once you decide. 8-) Where the heck is Verslagen? Must be on the side of the road working on his manual decompression lever…. Lancer, how’s your battery holding up? It only took 4 of us to replace it with only a small amount of blood spilled. When I was in the process of moving in October, Versey and I took a short ride and there was a bad oil leak when we got back so I parked it. About a month ago I tried to start it and the battery was down, so I put it on the charger, but that was a no go, it was dead. |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by ThumperPaul on 03/15/25 at 05:06:57 Springman, take care of yourself. Lancer, that sucks. I know that battery wasn’t cheap out there in Leakey. Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 03/15/25 at 08:49:28 Springman I'm sorry to read your starting to have them Old Man issues . I hope they pass easy. This is what I've been doing for that same issue for quite a few years now. : Glucosamine Sulfare Potassium Chloride 1,000 mg. (Walmart - Spring Valley) Remind me to tell ya the tale of how I found out about the Glucosamine next time I see ya ! ............................................ Hay Lancer , is that the REX or the BSA ? I think I'm not mec. enough to not have a newer bike. Even with that being said ... today I'm taking my front brake caliber apart to free-up it's" workings and put some grease on the pins that slide . Its got that "Quick Pluse" as I slow down thing going on. I'm not sure that "Anti-Lock Brakes" are such a good thing --- sometimes ! ::) My 350 Meteor (350cc modern Savage clone :)) is still my favorite bike at the time. Accutulely a Savage with a 4 gallon fuel tank and 65 mpg would be ideal ! ;) |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by Ruttly on 03/15/25 at 12:38:47 Use caution with glucosamine/chondroiton ! Some years ago I was using Joint Juice for painful knees & shoulders one a day and yeah it works and maybe I’m allergic to it but after 3 months , I was at work and had ducked down to get under a trailer when I stood up on the other side I had a visual blackout , both eyes went black. Really scary to be blind in an instant , no warning at all. I got down to one knee right where I was standing , slowly right eye came back from foggy to clear while left eye was still in blackout. Made my way into shop to inform foreman I’m done for the day , after 20 minutes vision began to return , back to normal in an hour. Thought I was having a stroke , after blood work , X-rays , magnetic resonance tests , ultra sound on my neck to check for plugged arteries , 6 tests & blood after review all of it tests , found nothing at all. Thought maybe cause of a hangover but doctor said no , we have found absolutely nothing ! By now no lingering symptoms and thought I would go back to joint juice , bought a six pack , drank one , standing in line at a second store and bam , left eye blacked out , went to a knee expecting other eye to black out too. It was only maybe a minute later sight returned but foggy for awhile. All the same tests again and again they found nothing. Tossed 5 bottles of the stuff and never had another visual blackout in 11 years. Really really scary to be blind in an instant !!! |

Some times I think I need to go get an eye exam and glasses ? but-for now, I'm in my 70's and still getting by with just reading glasses ? Well , Getting OLD is still better than the alternative :). ............................ |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by ThumperPaul on 03/16/25 at 05:37:02 Trying to stay somewhat on topic with “2025 Rides”, here’s a little route recording of yesterday’s ride my “Bergman 650 buds”. About 170 miles in the Houston “Back 40” including areas like Bellville, Fayetteville, Lake Fayetteville Oak Thicket Park, Round Top, Burton, Brenham and Buckhorn. Lots of cows and horses with an adventurous unexpected detour around a major backup due to construction (who knew those “short cuts” existed?). I just recently downloaded this app (Relive). It’s pretty cool and easy to use. In the analytics tab for each “activity”, it includes stuff like: miles, elevation changes, top speed, avg speed, etc. I have the free Basic version and they want me to upgrade naggingly bad to the paid premium version where you can insert photos and do other stuff to create something like a slide show. Best if viewed on a laptop, tablet, or desktop. https://www.relive.com/view/v7O9Zw7DLQ6 |

I’ll be thinking about y’all when I’m riding The Sisters. MM, yeah mostly straight roads 55-75mph. Ranchers and farmers need straight roads to transport livestock, hay, and stuff, and they got places to be and people to see! So I can confirm that a 2006 Honda Shadow Spirit 750 realistically tops out at 96mph per GPS (100mph pegged on the speedometer). Those darn Bergman 650s can scoot and they were trying to leave me in the dust! 8-) :o |

Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by Dave on 03/19/25 at 02:15:55 Deb and I are leaving early this morning (Wed 3/19) for our trip to the Big Bend area of Texas. We were going to leave on Thursday - but a wind/rain/snow event is coming down from the northern states and bring cold with it! I want to avoid driving on snow covered roads in the RV!!!!! We were going to go west to St. Louis and then on through Oklahoma City, Wichita Falls and on down to Odessa Texas, as that route is much flatter than the southern route - however that puts us more into the path of the storm. The southern route we are taking has a lot of hills through Kentucky. We then head toward Nashville and Memphis before the land flattens out - we get back onto the original planned route at Odessa. Today will be a rough travel day as it is forecast to be very windy. The rest of the trip will be far more relaxed as we are leaving a day early and can go at a relaxed pace and we have time to stop and explore along the way. I anticipate a bit of slow going today and I hope the 20-40mph headwinds stay farther north - however the forecast almost everywhere is for a windy afternoon. I anticipate about 30 hours of time behind the wheel as the RV is not very speedy going up hills! |

Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by LANCER on 03/20/25 at 12:41:53 You must be getting older. I don’t think I’m getting any older, even though my body keeps trying to tell me I am. They lie, ya’ know ? [ch128527] |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 03/20/25 at 20:50:42 I've got to quit reading this. I am so jealous. I can't believe I cannot make it on this one. If we get the #50 cabin then we'll have a fourth bed ! :) :) :) :) Those cabins are not pricey even if we need two of them ! ........................... Paul , RE makes a GT version that is not far from the one you found ! Also , did you know they make a 865cc bolt on kit for it ? So it's an over-bore bike to begin with with 4 valves per cylinder. There is also a "+20%-Performance Cam" easy to get. And a DNA air intake kit that doubles the air intake capacity . There is a multitude of Free Flowing Exaust systems for it too. For under $8.5k , you can buy a new one , add all the HP add-ons and have a new Scream Machine ! The GT and Interceptor versions are just a little over 400 pounds. My Super Meteor and the Shot-gun versions are a little over 500 pounds. It looks like this dealer bought-out some New-Old-Stock https://www.allsportinc.com/--inventory?make=royal%20enfield&pg=1 My factory bike is only 48-HP , but that's more than enough for anything I want to do . I've grown lazy through the years ! ;) I've got a Blue one of these , it's a little heavy for me but I put some Lowering shocks on it so I get by just fine. |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 03/20/25 at 21:07:10 Hay Lancer Did we get 7 Nights ? Did # 50 work ? Do we need to change our dates any ? Yeeehaaa ! ;) |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by springman on 03/21/25 at 11:17:47 So if I understand correctly the ride is arriving Moab on April 27 and departing on May 3. Is that correct? |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 03/21/25 at 21:42:49 Lancer are you OK , Should I do the reserving ? Are the dates of April 27 to 3 May good for everybody ? I'd like to call them Monday afternoon if we don't have a cabin by then. So If our dates are already booked ... how about the week after ? I'm thinking cabin #50 just in case we need a fourth bed. Get there on Sunday for Sunday night and leave on Sunday Morning ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OFXQp_eI3k some of these may be a little too far from Moab ... but maybe there could be another Camp ground close by them for next trip ? For 12,000 feet up I'm bringing a real jacket ! |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by LANCER on 03/22/25 at 13:06:55 We are registered for cabin #48 (50 n/a), arriving on Sunday April 27 & checking out Saturday May 3. |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by LANCER on 03/22/25 at 14:37:46 Wait, I missed 2 important items when I made the reservations, didn’t have them written down in my calendar. Can we delay the ride ? There’s Mothers Day shortly after. I hesitate going sooner because of cold in the mountains. If y’all cannot deviate then we can still use these dates. Let me know. |

Lancer you joking ? :-[ If we have to sleep in the truck I'll speaking up for the "Passenger side right now" ;) So, as of now we have Sunday night April 27 -Sunday morning May 4th. right ? If so : I'll plan on being at your house April 25 or 26th. OR What's the best week for you ? We might get cabin 50 the week after ... May 4 - 10 would be Great for me ! Hay Lancer , you bringing the 650 or the 650 ? :-? ................ I have to be home by May 20th , I've got a date with Marcia in Helen GA , I don't want to miss. So any of them weeks before (May 20th) are OK. :) Warmer is good for me , I don't like cold and learned long ago "Cool is a frame of mind" ;) Just let me know , like Versey said ; I'm flexable. ;) |

Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by Dave on 03/23/25 at 04:35:37 When we left lunch with Youzguyz - we drove to see the Regency suspension bridge. It was something I was threatening to do on one of our group motorcycle rides down here - but the mile of gravel road to get to it was a huge deterrent. It turns out that avoiding it on a motorcycle trip was a good idea. The gravel road had rocks the size of golf balls in some areas - the aggregate was just perfect for rolling out from under a motorcycle tire. It was also a 5 hour round trip from Kerrville, and the roads there and back were not very exciting. It was worth the drive in a car, and I am glad we got to see it and drive over it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_L2uKjqztHQ |

I had the thought ... "Marcia tells me I shouldn't do that"... that Versey's neighborhood is only one day West of Moab. I'm sure that's important somehow ? We could go see Versey sometime ! Just hop scotching our way all the way there and back. You even been to the South of California ? Not this trip , but it's possible sometime. |

Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 03/27/25 at 23:10:31 No problem , I'll bring the Truck. I've had the idea to build a 4'x8' Tear-Drop Sleeper Trailer to tow with it . So 2 or 3 mpg loss ? Already bought the trailer , but can't deside : 1. With a 64" Ceiling and ramp rear door + side door. (bike would fit). 2. With a 46" Ceiling and ramp rear door + side door. (better mpg). Windows , roof vent and 12V to 120V converter with either option , no water. Utilize the Interstate rest areas. Bike in the Trailer means Marcia's Jeep could be the tow vehicle. |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 03/28/25 at 07:34:35 Hay Lancer we need to bring SpringMan's truck ! ;) I think his gets up near 40-50 mpg ? :-? |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by springman on 03/28/25 at 12:12:21 Only upper 30's mpg with bike on back at Texas highway speeds. ;D |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 03/28/25 at 21:14:18 Yes I don't care for those - Texas Hwy Speeds they take the fun out of the ride -IMHO. I guess I'm getting lazy driver syndrome as the years creep up on me ? Most of the time now ridding the 350cc bike and running 55-65 on the secondary roads is very nice ! :) |

Last Thursday night at 11:30PM we drove our RV on US75 right through the middle of Dallas. We were headed to a Cracker Barrel parking lot on the south side of Dallas to spend the night, and we figured that the roads would not be too scary in Dallas just before midnight. We were so wrong!!!!! Even at that late hour the roads were busy and the speeds were intense. There were a small number of cars going the speed limit like we were - 80-90mph was the most common speed. There were a lot of cars/trucks going much faster than that, and I saw one Porsche that flew by us at likleey 120-140mph.....it was just a streak and was easily going double our speed. I would imagine that when accidents happen in Dallas, they are pretty severe. The cars would just bounce off the concrete walls that lined both sides of the highway. |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 03/29/25 at 09:22:19 I'm all for speed cameras on the interstate and mailing tickets for 1 mph over the speed limit. As in set the cruise control for 1mph UNDER the speed limit. I drove through Dallas once in mid day. :( :( :( situation . We need it even in TN. some folks run 20mph over the speed limit and get away with it on a regular basics . However fast I can get away with is effetely the speed limit. We need camera's to put an end to it. IMHO :) |

Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 03/31/25 at 14:37:54 We might need to locate a wand-type car wash ... some of these places have a mile of dirt road to get too them ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQQh_ZyGUHQ&t=501s I'm bring a "Pocket" Flashlight battery pack solar charger . Sun-Rise and Sun-Set short hikes might be a thing ? Disclaimer : I'm not much on Hikes , but I used to be OK with them. If we need to do hikes (maybe I'll have some "arch Supports" by then ?) then we could take turns "Watching the bikes" ? ::) ................................. National Park Pass ... |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by springman on 03/31/25 at 14:39:57 And it ain't even Thanksgiving yet! ;D No! Definitely nix the cameras on the highway. I went to Austin (by car) this weekend and for the most part just set the cruise control on 75 which is the speed limit on most of the highway. When the limit dropped to 70 I would sometimes forget to disengage the cruise control, but did not matter, I was still getting passed on the left. I don't mind a few miles above the speed limit, it's the guys doing 90+ that scare me. |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 03/31/25 at 18:10:32 Your right Springman , they can't slow them down here in TN either. In cities the limit goes down to 55 and the traffic flow stays at 80 , it seems like such a great FUND RAISER idea for the cities ! :) I guess I was venting frustration "Sorry" :-[ ............................. Thankfully we have some secondary roads for me to putt putt on . ;) |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 04/01/25 at 17:54:08 I got to go on a putt putt type ride for a hundred (plus a little) mile loop today . Marcia was visiting her 101 year old mom and I met her for lunch on top Moneagle Mountain. So I went up the Mountain on a two lane road with a passing lane , lot's of curves with nobody in front of me ... ::) ... I had to down shift and open the throttle just for fun. :) The cars that were behind me all disappeared except one ! I think it was a young guy in a Toyota sports car (never got a really good look at him just the front of his car) ... he kept up ! That made it more fun. ;) It was good to do a little drifting on dry pavement ! :) :) On the 350cc Enfield |

Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by Ruttly on 04/01/25 at 21:32:35 They call that ( Spirited Riding ). Kinda like when they race antique cars or motorcycles , they call it exhibition racing after the first turn it becomes Spirited racing. Still super important to know your limits and/or limits of your bike and its tires. All in all ride safe ! 8-) |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by buster6315 on 04/02/25 at 06:08:53 Thank you for the clarification! When the latest snowfall melts around here, I may engage in that type of riding myself. |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 04/02/25 at 09:06:44 Buster , I'm afraid to do it on wet roads . I've experienced the front wheel not acting cooperatively and didn't like it much ! :-[ Nobody cares much what the rear tire does ! ;) |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by Ruttly on 04/02/25 at 10:24:47 Smart boy , that’s why you’re still riding ! I used to do stupid stuff on wet roads , not worth dropping my bike and too old to be on my a$s sliding down the road. But I have to admit it was hella fun gettin stupid in the rain. Now my only game plan on any ride , gettin me & bike back home in the same condition we left in ! ;D ;D ;D |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by MMRanch on 04/02/25 at 17:56:20 Now my only game plan on any ride , gettin me & bike back home in the same condition we left in ! Grin Grin Grin Back to top Most of the time that's # 1 , Sometimes it's # 2 ::) I've been behind Dave's bike watching how his rear tire drifts out. It's kind of scary the way it gets out of line with the front then switches over to out of line on the other side with the next curve ... Then the thought come's through ... I'm keeping up with him ! ;D .................................. I saw the weather forecast for Moab the week we'll be there today . 43 for the low's and 70 for the High's ... What????? I thought I was riding at a conservative speed? ;) I remember riding north out of Suches and I got a bit too close to the center line on a downhill curve. Route 261 seems to be THE ROAD in the area ? There are so many places to see near Moab ... I don't know which one to do first ! :) Also , I want to check out the motels in Mexican Hat for our future visits in the area. Versey is working on his clutch (I think) just to be prepared for any road. Grated Gravel is the roads I grew-up ridding . Just keep the front wheel in the dust-track between the gravel-runs and everything will be alright ! And don't tailgate the person if front of ya !! ;D |
Title: Re: 2025 Rides Post by ThumperPaul on 04/19/25 at 13:40:00 Ha! It's tempting MM. I'll be revisiting the Twisted Sisters when y'all are scheduled to arrive in Utah. I leave this Friday and returning a few days later (haven't decided exactly yet). I'll be riding there and and back from Houston (about 250-300 miles each way). I've alerted Youzguys I'll be in his neck of the woods. He may try to join us. The Sisters ride is scheduled for Saturday - hopefully it's not too busy. I think I've got my bike ready to go. Just need to lube the chain and check tire pressure one more time. I'll miss you guys! Y'alls trip looks pretty cool! |
