Title: Wind chill? Post by ThumperPaul on 12/10/24 at 08:23:13 If you ride 21mph with 21mph wind gusts, does it negate the wind chill factor? Does the wind chill factor double when you ride into the wind? I’ll be back later and I’ll let y’all know. |

LOL. It's official. It's colder going INTO the wind. But 21mpg gusts are no fun, period. Dang crosswinds can send you off track 2-3 feet just when you find your favorite line! Test concluded! Waiting now for this cold wet front to pass in about a week. |
Title: Re: Wind chill? Post by blod on 12/10/24 at 12:51:48 Riding in freezing temperatures is like riding in a blast freezer, the faster you go the worse it gets. Makes not a lot of difference whether there is a wind of not. |

Title: Re: Wind chill? Post by bobert_FSO on 12/10/24 at 20:01:51 Wind chill is increases with wind velocity only up to about 40 mph. So, if its cold out, 60 (or 80) mph will not feel any colder than 40 mph. Go ahead and lay into that throttle. |

Title: Re: Wind chill? Post by ThumperPaul on 12/11/24 at 05:34:21 That chart is good for people in like Norway or Siberia with the warmest temperature on the chart being 40°F. It’s the frost bite calculator. I’ve seen similar charts that include more reasonable temperatures (like 55°-60°). Nifty formula they show below the chart if you like to build spreadsheets using decimal exponential math. I can’t do that in my head. Cold, Breezy, and Damp is a big “Heck No”! That would be Houston in February. You have to pick your riding days carefully then. |

I don't think they would understand it in Norway, and I'm doubtful about Siberia. I live in Canada and I don't understand it either, it makes no sense ::) |
Title: Re: Wind chill? Post by JOG on 12/11/24 at 13:16:25 There were quite a few charts. https://www.weather.gov/epz/wxcalc_windchill Search wind chill chart |
