Title: Mystery oil leak
Post by Gator1016 on 01/25/25 at 00:07:46

My Ryca RR-1Bobber ( Suzuki s40 base) developed a small oil leak from a part I cannot ID. It looks like a small silver reservoir next to where the clutch cable connects to the transmission.  Once the bike is hot this opening bubbles over and runs down the underside of the engine, making a mess of my parking space.  Can anyone ID this part for me so I can start working on it correctly?  The attached JPEG is actually three photos. I hope it helps. Thanks..

It is the drive for the stock speedometer cable.

You need to put a threaded cap over the top of it to stop the oil leak.

There is a brass cap made for natural gas/propane pipe that one member used to cap off this speedometer drive.  You likely will have to install a proper sized O-ring to get it oil tight.

You could probably also use the threaded portion of a stock cable and make a round metal insert and the proper sized O-ring.

Brother, that makes too much sense!   Between my military deployments and family time I spent years building this RYCA bobber.  As a guy knew the mechanics I had forgotten what went there. The moment I read your reply, I smacked my head.  Thank you very much!
