Title: Aluminum Fuel Tanks
Post by ThumperPaul on 03/12/25 at 08:13:08

For you guys that have done custom builds, have you ever installed an aluminum gas tank?  Pros/cons?

I’ve read they are more corrosion resistant but not immune.

Most seem expensive.

Two bikes with aluminum tanks , one is stock and the other is not. Love the look and never had a problem.

Great.  Thanks!  Anything to look for or avoid when looking around?

Buying overseas , make double sure it’s aluminum and it has a cap. I’ve seen descriptions with terms , chrome like , polished , chrome , aluminum and the tank that shows up is a steel chromed tank. Don’t get burned !

Thanks Ruttly.  I know what you mean.  If you’ve ever shopped on AliExpress, it’s like buzzword bingo.  They just throw in as many keywords as possible whether applicable or not.

Polished aluminum tanks even if partially painted sets you apart. Shows you have great tastes. I’m sure everyone has heard me say it’s all about shapes and lines , colors add to it as a accent , but shapes and lines always remain. Polished aluminum tanks just add a level of sophistication that stands out against the billions of cookie cutter bikes out there.  With all that being said remember the word polish ,  you will find it annoying at first to keep it in spec , but in time it becomes a bit of a pleasure & part of your start up routine. Get used to riding with a soft polishing rag stuffed in your pocket ! 8-) 8-) 8-)
