Title: Best countries
Post by Needles on 08/05/25 at 06:31:55

8 of the 12 best countries to live in are considered Democratic Socialist countries. They also rank highest in the least corrupt list.

https://www.usnews.com/news/best-countries/rankings/economically-stable

In other news, the US dropped 2 places, to 27th, in the rankings of least corrupt countries. Czechia and Croatia are less corrupt than the US. Number 1 for most corrupt is Russia.

A little more socialism would be the best thing the US has ever done. Whatever else you can say about China, they have come into the 21st century like gangbusters. The US conservatives want 1939 Germany. Capitalism is just the modern word for feudalism...

I'll take a Nordic model socialist country  :-?

"Iceland is a Nordic country located in northern Europe. It is one of the five countries that are known for the Nordic Model that has high levels of Socialism in its framework. Nordic Model is characterized by a market economy with highly unionized labor, partnership between employers, employees and the government in what is known as the ‘collective bargaining’, state pensions, universal healthcare and a comprehensive social safety net.

Nordic countries consistently top Happiness indexes from the World Happiness Report. Iceland has an innovation score of 49.20, a rank of 26th in global competitiveness and a high social progress score of 91.09.

"Billionaires are why we have tech and jobs!" Wrong. Publicly-funded R&D is. Stop worshiping billionaires for what teachers, scientists, and taxpayers made possible.

We may find out soon enough. Apparently New Yorkers are foolish enough to elect Zohran Mamdani as mayor. To be fair, as a mayor, he won’t have complete control so won’t be able to wave his hand and confiscate private businesses and property at will. I suspect he’ll do significant damage, but will be able to point fingers at the capitalists (the ones that remain anyway) and blame them for the disaster.

Since I work for a Swedish company, I’ve been to Sweden a few times and yes it’s a stunning, beautiful, well organized place. Our office over there were essentially closed for the last four weeks because everybody takes a summer holiday for about a month. They do that in quite a few European countries.

Would that system of government translate to the United States? No, I don’t think so.

I know Socialism looks attractive, but it’s like looking through a child’s eyes at an amusement park.

You’re welcome. So when AOC is president and starts assigning jobs to worker bees like you, maybe she’ll just make you the Court Jester instead of putting you on the road gang laying asphalt.

Since we had a work meeting yesterday, that included some people from Sweden, I thought it was funny that I looked this up : Sweden has 43 billionaires, along with countless millionaires. I would assume the same holds true with these other democratic socialist countries.

Sweden’s “Socialism“ is going away quickly. For the last 15 years I can promise you they are very much a capitalistic society. We are required to grow our business 10% every year which is difficult. Just because they have social programs doesn’t exactly qualify them to follow the label of some variation of “socialism”. I feel like the phrase Democratic Socialism it’s a little bit of an oxymoron.

And with their recent decision a few years ago to allow large numbers of immigrants from northern Africa who have not a assimilated to Sweden’s laid-back lifestyle during they’re off hours when they’re not working and who are creating serious chaos, particularly in Stockholm but in outlying areas as well, their “live and let live“ philosophy is being seriously challenged.

According to MAGATs everywhere, a democratic socialist country couldn't possibly have any billionaires or millionaires. So, it seems either you're wrong about them having 1%ers, or you're wrong about democratic socialism. Which is it?

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Yeah, all those refugees from unregulated capitalist (feudal) countries need to be deprogrammed, since they've all grown up in exploitive environments. They need to rise above the animalistic tendencies capitalism teaches. They need to become adult human beings, not animals.
