I'm a new Savage owner and my bike uses one quart of oil every 500 miles. There's also a tapping near or at the head after it warms up. Do I have a serious oil use problem?  flubbyhead

I don't think so. My '86 also uses the oil. No perceived blue smoke. The tapping seems to be quite normal. Doesn't seem to effect the bike much. Any mechanics out there???

You probably have the infamous headplug leak.  :'(
Clean the head of all residual oil and look in the cavaty just above the exhaust ( looking from the front that is).
Search the forum for suggestions how to repair Roll Eyes
