"Throttle Rockers" Best invention ever!

Hi again gang. I just purchased a "Throttle Rocker" for a measly $10 here in Toronto. I have seen them on Ebay for about $15 or so. For those of you that do not know its a little devise (plastic) that attaches to the right or left grips through velcro and rubber that allows you to use the palm of your hand to throttle forwards without actually "gripping" the grip. I have bad Carple Tunnel Syndrome so this is a godsend for me. I cannot ride for more than 1 hour without having to pull over and give some feeling back into my numb wrist. This little devise is worth every penny. I highly recommend it to all who ride with this discomfort. One of the best bike inventions ever!!!  Roy.

NOT!

Angry

FWIW, I removed mine before 5 miles passed.  They might be great for the open road, but my big hands were more than cramped, and I installed mine at the edge.  It really caused me some issues with control of my throttle in city traffic.

What I found to be much better is a Vista cruise lock.  It allows you to completely remove your hand from the throttle, and at the same time you can still adjust speed.  It basically nuetralizes the throttle return spring.  But of course, like anything, you get what you pay for and it is more expensive....about $30.

It isn't something to use around town or in heavy traffic, but when riding in open space it is great.  Hand free to shake off the numbness or even pick your nose.

Note #1 - it comes with a 7/8" clamp standard for the handlebar.  You have to buy the extra 1" clamp to fit a Savage.

Note #2 - If you have Kuryakyn grips (like I do), it won't easily fit and that leaves you with 2 choices.  You can buy the Kuryakyn cruise lock accessory OR you can do as I did and bore the piece out in a lathe...it is about .040" too small for the Kuryakyn grips.  5 minutes on the lathe and it fit fine.

i might get one of those - i have a tension in my right hand after a while and feel a strain at my thumb - i think it's due to having  a small hand and i was thinking of changing the bars for ones with a smaller diameter. I might try this first.
Do they ship to the UK?

i haven't got a clue what my grips are called - they are standard to the '86 model - chrome and rubber strips.

Just do a search for Vista Cruise Lock.  You'll find it.  They fit the standard grips just fine.  Be sure to order the 1" clamp too.

I picked up one these the other day, and I have mixed emotions about it.  It's great if you're gonna ride on an open highway for a while, but it sucks for town traffic.  I kept bumping the thing and cracking the throttle pretty hard.  Takes some getting used to, but I think I'm gonna leave it on.

Are we talking about the throttle rocker or the Vista cruise, anyway it sounds like 3 issues if it is the latter....

1. you aren't used to it yet.  I bumped mine a few times before I learned not to  Roll Eyes

2. you don't use cruise control in a car in city traffic, so why use the cruise lock?

3. did you adjust the tension on the nut to allow you to turn the vista cruise while it is locked?  It should only be tight enough to prevent the throttle spring from returning.
