The bars have been on Savages already (in Europe I believe) so no big change there. I bet they still didn't bother to put in a tripmeter. Wasn't the 2004 Savage set up with a black engine?

The S40: 40 cubic inch, four-stroke, single cylinder, air cooled with SOHC

The Savage: 652cc, four-stroke, single cylinder, air cooled with SOHC

You can take 40 cubic inch and multiply by 16.39 to get the correct cc - in this case, it's off but then again, marketing folks will push the numbers no matter what! Or take the cc and divide by 16.39.

40 cubic inches X 16.39 = 655.6

(Close enough for marketing...just the same way some motorcycles touted as 650cc are actually a little less than 650..the Savage is a little more (652) The Yamaha VStar 650 is actually 649cc, but they still show it as a 40 cubic-inch, air-cooled, SOHC, 70° V-twin).

And did everyone notice that the price is the same...so if you did want that backrest (sissy bar), it WILL cost you extra.

All of the "Boulevard" models are numbered according to their C.I. displacement rather than CC. I guess that is a way to attract the American market, but it seems kinda like a backwards step after everyone's gotten accustomed to the metric measurements. The "new Savage" engine retains all the same specs (bore and stroke, etc.) The next model size up is a S50 or 800...go figure the reasoning. What was wriong with the Intruder and Marauder 800?

I just wonder if this change will include simularities between models such that accessories will be more available for the "Savage Boulevard" too.

Could all this have to do with Kawasaki?

Big single days are numbered....sad but true. If the bigger is better theme doesn't get it, then the EPA will. One day it will be retired to the FSSNOC category, I guess. To survive the EPA, it will need to end up with fuel injection, liquid cooling, and a good ol' catalytic converter, I bet. Definitely wouldn't look the same on the street....and not much sense in a dirt version with the DR line up.

The changes are not that extreme ... it is essentially the same Bike as before, just a 'lil more "streamlined" to enhance the subtle 60's Chopper lines the LS650 already had!

The seat, the handlebars, the fenderstruts at the back are a big improvement. The black barrel is NOT. They (the Japs) can call it what they want, it is still a SAVAGE.

Actually, most of the changes seem to be your typical mods that people do. At least some people. I like it. The name is twinky, but Savage was also kinda camp.
