New to bikes, and not sure where the heck to install the oil filter on my savage. Anyone give me a hint? Or perhaps a URL to a diagram, thanks allot.

It's at the forward right quadrant of the engine case, next to your right ankle.  It's a triangular cover.

Consider buying a Clymers.  About $20 at Amazon.
