Things that make my ride better
08/19/04 at 11:50:56
Over the last week I have purchased several items that have help me enjoy my ride more (if that is possible).
I bought a First Gear mesh jacket. I love this jacket!!! It's very comfortable even in very hot temps. It has a zip in windbraker liner that I have needed these past mornings here in the Chicagoland. My leather was just to hot and riding in a t-shirt is not enough protection. This jacket is just as comfortable as a t-shirt to me. I bought the yellow to stand out more. One to many close calls of "opps, I didn't see you".
On my ride out to JC Whitney (100 miles from my house) I stopped and bought a new helmet. My helmet was getting to lose on my head and it was time for a new one. When the wind tries to rip off your head at 65mph you know it's time for a new one : ) The one I bought was the Nolan 100 e Classic. It's a flip up helmet which allows me to keep my glasses on when putting it on and taking it off. Very nice, quiet and great vision. Breaking in a helmet on a 200 mile round trip was not the smartest idea, but oh well.
The last thing I got actually at JC Whitney was a gel pad/cover for my seat. I have the Travelcade gel seat already but a little more comfort is nice. The one thing that it has done is raised me up about 1 1/2 inches. For me that's great! It makes my leg position to my forward controls even better. Before I keep pushing my self to the back of the seat and it wasn't always good. But now I can stretch out my legs. I'm only 5'6" but it seems to be all in my legs.
All of this to just say there are things out there to make our rides even better than what they are. This is long enough, I'm going riding!

You have the same Nolan helmets that Jules and I have. They are great, especially if you wear glasses, which is why we got them. We also bought the extra smoked face shields which are great if the majority of your travel is during the day...no more sunburned nose, but you do have to flip up for tunnels though
Ours were about $220 each, but they are darn well worth it. I am still trying to sell 4 cheaper helmets, though. Anyone interested?

We have the smoked shields as well and they are great. I always cringe when I have to put the clear one on because we might not get home 'till after dark... 8)

The chin guards on the Nolan flip-up as well as the face shield. Arai helmets also do this but at twice the price.
Also the pads and liners in the Nolan can be removed for washing.
