Best place to get new front brake pads?
10/30/04 at 20:02:02

I need new pads for the front.  Any suggestions on where to get them, and should I look for any particular brand?

I am going to try and change these myself... I have a clymer manual on order.

Get the EBC pads from a dealer, plus I just noticed a sign at Auto Zone yesterday...they now carry motocycle brake pads.  In fact Auto Zone now carries motorcycle motor oil too.  It's about darn time...

They are easy to change if you pay attention to the book.

How do you know if they are bad?  Okay, look at it this way.  They don't have to be changed until the groove is gone (unless something else is wrong).

Sorry about the lousy picture.  Makes my eyes hurt too  Roll Eyes

They have began squeaking really loud when applying the brakes.  I had a guy, believe it or not, at Autozone, who they say is their "motorcycle guy" take a look at the pads, and he said they were worn, and just need to replace them.

Thanks for the pic, that was very helpfull.

I figure I have the time to try it myself, theirs not really too many days left to ride, so if it takes me a little while, then no big deal.

Anything else I should pay attention to while I am doing that ?

Squealing really loud can be glazing on the pads or the caliper is not contacting the rotor evenly from side to side.

You can fix the glazing with sand paper.  You can make the caliper "float" on the rotor but removing it, cleaning and lubing the caliper gide pins.

If they are worn, the groove is really low...I have another pic, but I'll just spare everyone the blur  Tongue

BTW - let's not mix topics here, but take a look in the Tech Corner for your carb questions.

Got my new pads from the dealership and installed them myself today!  It was very easy to do, thanks to Greg_650 for the write up in the Technical Corner.

Brakes feel great, and no more squeaking!  Cheesy
