Measured of my spare:
43 mm or 1 11/16"

From what I know the Savage has a very good hydraulic leverage, the next step down on master cylinder would be a step too far.
So there you go, as good as it gets.

On the other hand a stainless steel braided brake hose might be a good idea, on older Savages more so.

I've heard that before. Especially for older hoses.

Suzuki's advice is to replace the rubber hose every 4 years.
Mine has the stainless steel braided brake line.
Cannot tell the difference as I have not felt the brake with a rubber hose.
Steel hose can be had in Holland for around 40 Euros.
