I have the jardine and the sound is mmm mmm good.  I ride with several buddies (harleys to Yamahas) and they ALL comment on my sound!

I could take some pictures if you are interested in seeing it.

Hey gang; How about an opinion on this muffler. I hear that the Savage/S40 has an odd size OD header pipe. Would one of these size bushings fit?

I just saw that one.  No, no.

Buy one to fit a Savage so you don't have to mess with adapters or brackets.

I went for the SuperTrapp. It is an easy installation. The SuperTrapp is 10 pounds lighter than the stock muffler, has a greatly improved sound, and gives a noticeable power boost especially in the midrange in the higher gears. Expect to pay around $250 for the SuperTrapp, and they are easy to find. Go to their website and locate your closest dealer. The SuperTrapp is adjustable, so you can set the power and/or noise you want.
However, I recommend you upjet your carb when you do this to maximize the effect, wipe out the backfiring, and to eliminate pipe discoloration. Look at the Dynojet 3107A jet kit for this upgrade.

I just put the MAC on mine for $95 from the manufacturer and I love both the sound and the increased flow.  I also used the K&N direct replacement air filter and a Mikuni 155 main jet in the carb.

If you are interested, I have an MP3 sound clip I recorded of the MAC.  I also have copies of sound clips of the Jardine, Raask and Supertrapp provided by Greg.  If you'd like to hear them, please send me a PM (don't clutter this thread) and I'll shoot 'em to you.  (I am assuming Greg doesn't mind my passing his along.)

John or Susan, I think these are the four main mufflers made specifically to fit the Savage/S40 and if there's a way to host these files and provide links to them on the site, that would probably be useful for folks considering using one of them.

I've already sent John a note to see if we can get this done. I'll let you know.

I asked Greg weeks ago and he said I could make the wav files,  Jardine, RaaskDragpipe, and SuperTrapp,  available to download.  I can add your MAC if you wish.

That's cool. Can you start a topic in the tech section with them? When I hear from John we can change them over to being stored and downloading from the site (if its ok with him) but until then your files would be great!

Hi...first post on this board.  Just bought a '99 Savage and the exhaust will need to be replaced soon.  Thanks for posting this thread.  Sound and performance are both important, plus cost!  This is really helpful! 8)

Price counts also.  And it, as always, comes down to personal preference.  I dislike high frequencies and judging by the sound clips my muffler of choice would be the MAC -- it muffles the sharp highs while leaving the mellow lows to escape into the world.

And cheap and reliable -- sort of the exception to pcik two: fast, cheap, correct.  It's hosted by jaguarpc.com, I did a one year pre-pay and got a buncha megs and 15G bandwidth for $8/mo.  The current Gigadeal is 1G space, 45G bandwidth, $6/mo.  At those prices you would expect slow and shoddy -- but they're not.

My bandwidth hasn't gone over a gig yet, averages abour a half -- and that is for all five domains.  I don't mind hosting a few pictures and sounds.
