I dislike high frequencies and judging by the sound clips my muffler of choice would be the MAC

I agree that based on those sound clips the MAC sounds the best (deepest).  However, to be a fair comparison, the sound clips need to be recorded with similar if not identical devices and media.  It sounds to me like the MAC recording may simply have been made with superior equipment.  The Raask recording sounds like a chainsaw because the recording quality is inferior (to my ears anyway).

[edit]No offense intended to the person (Greg?) responsible for the Raask recording - and the others.  It would be helpful to me to know how the recordings were done.

Rereading other posts it appears that Greg came up with the Jardine, Raask and Supertrapp and Savage_Rob did the MAC - correct?  What did you fellers use to record them?

For the MAC, I used two 12-ft extension cords and a cheap mic to get to about 5 feet from the bike in my garage.  It was recorded directly into the PC's sound card (an old Soundblaster SB16 Value card) at 16 khz using the basic Windows sound recorder.  I then converted it to a VBR MP3 using a free (for personal use) conversion app called Switch.

I used a Sony Digital Recorder for my sounds files, but let's remember that none were done with the best accoustic surroundings.  My pipes would most likely sound different on my recorder if I went to Robs house and made them, and vice versa.  He recorded his in a garage, and mine were on a porch.

Sound wise, I like the Raask for it's sheer volume.  Sounds like 1/2 of any Cobra type pipe on a v-twin....yep, loud.

I like the SuperTrapp, Mac, and Jardine for the mellower tones...in that order too.

However, in all fairness, my recording of a Jardine was done at a rally on a Savage that wasn't really tuned right and the Jardine had a loose baffle....so that file is merely an example, but not a perfect one.

Besides, comparing the Raask with the others is apples and oranges again....you can't compare a larger ID straight pipe with a stock header and a slip-on muffler.  The total flow is different....

And let's not forget, we're all listening to these on different computer speakers and in different rooms, too.  We just have no standard for either the recording or the playback.

But what the hay....we've got more sounds than any other forum.  Thanks to Paladin for posting them  Grin

You might have to boost the speaker sensitivity to capture the sound...

There is another silencer, the Miller.
go to links, Jon's Savage Site, photos, Cool Savages and go down to the 14th image, a nice up turned silencer.
