Side panel/covers delete (questions)

Hello all.
I went to start my bike this morning, and somehow the left-side side panel has gone missing. Rather than replace it, I'm curious about deleting both of them. I'm looking for input from someone who has done this, probably someone who has installed an open-element air filter (K&N). I'd like to know what is involved, best way to go about it, tips, etc. I'd really appreciate it, and I think it would make a great tech article. (I apologize if this has been covered before, but I was unable to find any info. )
Thanks in advance,
JC

This one probably belongs in the other section, but I have done this work. Removed the airbox and moved the ignition unit which is now in the toolkit area. I did install a K&N pod filter but to fit over the battery, I had to move the battery box to the rear 1 1/2".
Hope that helps.
