Which Manual Do You Use?
12/16/04 at 14:32:13
I just got my wife a savage (boulevard s40 actually) and
I need to get a repair manual for it (gonna install a dynojet stage1 kit to get rid of the backfires).
The only one I saw is the Clymer 1986-2003. Is that what everyone is using?
Are there any better ones?
thanks,
ben

Those seem to be the only two that I could find. When it concerns the Suzuki Savage/s40.
The Clymer manual and Suzuki manual. At least those seem to be the two that are most referenced in this forum.

I have the SSM....and I think there are only the 2 you've found.
Of course, the bike is so simple, how many do you need anyway?

I have the Clymer manual. It is ok. Sometimes it is hard to find what I am looking for. It is thorough though.

Got he Clymer last year @ walmart.com was cheapest.
Beware there were 4 1st editions, you want the 2nd. ed. w/ late model stuff.
If yo' po' like me you will try to get by w/o the SSM.
If yo' rich get them both. If you really rich, send a SSM to all your SS.com pals for chrimus.

So far as shadetree mechanics go, I would currently classify myself and a competent novice. By that, I mean I am competent with hand tools, have a fair amount of general knowledge, some experience with car engines/drivetrains (but that was over 20 years ago) and a small amount of basic motorcycle maintenance (mostly about 15 years ago). That said, I have the Clymer's primarily because I figured it'd have most of what I would need and would more easily fit into a saddlebag. I may reach a point sometime where I gather enough experience that I require more detail than it provides. At that point I will likely get the Suzuki manual.
