Inline Fuel Filter?
12/18/04 at 14:35:14

According to the Clymer manual the Savage has only a small fuel filter screen in the fuel shutoff valve. They suggest installing an inline fuel filter in order to keep the carburetor clean.

Anyone done this; is it an easy job; and are such inline filters readily available?

I picked one up at my local dealer for a couple of dollars and all you do is cut your fuel line and put it in the middle with a couple of clamps or even tie-wraps.

Use the small metal radiator hose style clamps....NEVER tie wraps.

Though a failure here with the newer petcocks won't cause a severe feul spill, but why chance it.  With the older on/off petcocks, a spill would be dangerous.

And I'd stick with the plastic filters.  There are nice fancy glass ones out there, but a friend had one crack under the hood of his car and it was more than a mess.  Think what a rock could do .......
