small wire hanging, no neutral light?!?

ok, took the tank off do do a little looking around and then put it back on. I noticed a sigle blue wire laying on top of the frame between where gas tank would go and frame. Looked all over and could not find its counterpart. So i figure its a test lead or something, put tank back on and bike has no neutral light. Anyone know where this wire hooks up?? 1996 13,000 miles

Presumably you disconnected the neutral wire.
Take the tank off again and look for the counterpart of the wire hanging loose. Follow the wire from the engine, it exits out of the engine near the clutchlever, disappears behind the batterybox and comes out where you discribed.
The other part of the connector MUST be around that place in the cableloom.

I don't know which side do You have and which side You can not see, but I assume the missing end is arownd the decompressor solenoid. If I am correct You will be looking for a square connector.
Good luck!

There is only one electrical connection. Its a white square connecter. There is a male and female end. It has about 9 prongs and sits about in the middle of where the tank would sit on the backbone.

the connector im seeing is a single male end connector, blue in color goes along the backbone to almost the end of the tank. I made sure the white 9 prong one was connected well, but am still unsure what this little blue one goes to. ???

Is the blue wire attached to a multi-pin connector or is it coming out of a wire bundle? The wiring diagram I have shows a blue wire running from the neutral light indicator to an 7 or 8 pin connector.

Let me ask...does the bike start?
The blue wire is the nuetral light wire. The wire is mentioned in this photo in the Technical Corner, but the color isn't. The wire is also part of the starter interlock circuit
Blue wire
The connector is under the tank and you'll just have to find it somewhere under there. Good luck.

im sounding like a real idiot, i mean its just a wire
anyways yes bike starts but only with kickstand up and in neutral, so it could be the kickstand cutout but i also dont have the neutral light. The wire exits out the bundle where the picture indicates the neutral wire is, right but them yellow wires, then does a sharp turn south twords rear of bike....

The other end of the connector could be wrapped in electrical tape in the bundle....look for the dual diode for the interlock system...it is usually hidden under tape.

Okay....I found the picture....
Here is the connector for the nuetral light switch. The single wire connects to a connector before going to the speedo connector.
