TIRE SIZING IS EASIER THAN MOST PERCEIVE 140/80 B 15: WIDTH IS 140 MM, ASPECT RATIO (DISTANCE FROM RIM TO TREAD) IS 80% OF 140, B MEANS BELTED ( R IS RADIAL), RIM DIAMETER IS 15", SO.... 140/80-15 IS 5.51" WIDE, 4.4" FROM RIM TO TREAD, DISTANCE FROM AXLE TO TOP IS 11.9", TOTAL HEIGHT IS 23.8".
140/90-15 IS SAME WIDTH BUT 4.95" FROM RIM TO TREAD, AXLE TO TOP IS 12.45" - YES, MORE THAN A HALF INCH FARTHER INTO THE FENDER, TOTAL HEIGHT IS 24.9".
150/90-15 IS 5.9" WIDE, 12.81" FROM AXLE TO TOP, OVERALL, THE 150/90-15 IS ABOUT A HALF INCH WIDER AND WILL STAND ALMOST AN INCH TALLER INTO THE FENDER THAN STOCK, TOTAL HEIGHT 25.62".
I DON'T HAVE ANY OF MY OLD CHARTS WITH ME, BUT, PUTTING A 150/90B15 ON A STOCK RIM MAY ROUND OUT THE TREAD AREA AND ACTUALLY REDUCE CONTACT AREA (PATCH) WITH THE GROUND - IF SO....THAT'S LESS TRACTION FOR THE REAR TIRE - NOT A GOOD THING - THEN YOU'RE LOOKING AT A WIDER RIM TO KEEP THE TIRE SHAPE AS IT WAS DESIGNED - TO GET MORE RUBBER ON ROAD, ALONG WITH THE LOOK. BUT - NOT DONE YET- SINCE THE TIRE IS TALLER, IT WILL GO FARTHER ON EVERY REVOLUTION THAN THE STOCK TIRE. YOU'RE BIKE WILL BE MOVING FASTER THAN SPEEDO REGISTERS - YOU MAY NOT KNOW IT, BUT RADAR GUNS DO...... TO KEEP HEIGHT INTO FENDER & SPEEDO AS IF STOCK, THE CORRECT DIMENSIONS WOULD BE 150/75B15 (DOES ANYONE MAKE ONE?) AND RIM MAY NEED TO BE ONE INCREMENT (1/4" TO 1/2") WIDER .
