savagethumper Ex Member	Removing rear pegs 03/17/05 at 20:34:22 Has anyone done this? What size allen wrench am I gonna need, and can I do it without removing the rear wheel? ???

The foot peg mounts on the other hand...well mine are on extremely tight and I think I'm going to need to take off my rear wheel to really get in there. I don't remember the size of the allen wrench(es) but they use metric sizes.

Pull the wheel, it is about the only safe way to break the peg mount bolts loose. I tried without, gouged the frame pretty good when the allen wrench slipped (couldn't fully seat it with the wheel on). I seem to recall the allen wrench being around 10 or 12 mm... been a few years now, don't have the bolts anymore (they are on a Savage at Windsor Castle, England, along with the pegs and backseat).

I have a 140 tire and the tool will not fit between the bolt and the tire. You could possibly cut down the wrench to fit.

You need to remove the wheel. Because there is no clearance. I think it is a 10 mm bolt and it is tighter than snot because I think they used some thread locker on it during assembly.

One of these days I've got to bet off my lazy a-s-s and weld up those peg holes...I pulled the pegs almost 5 years ago. Greg, that cleaned up swingarm is outstanding. Thanks for the motivation.

Why do I get the feeling the Savage is going on the Volcano Run in the back of the truck? You folks are giving me WAY too much incentive to strip it completely and start over...

Sometimes...you get started on something and it snowballs too. Actually what isn't shown above is where I stripped the primer off and used Bondo to smooth out all the welds on the swingarm....'cause you'll notice that the belt guard brackets are gone too.

Then I primered it again and started with the lacquer.
