Unless you have the one laserjet printer that prints white you will need the white paper to have any white. Unless you want nonwhite with the background color showing thru.
Using the white paper means you'll have to carefully trim the decal before applying.
I don't see why it shouldn't work. With an inkjet you have to clearcoat the decal before wetting and sliding; and I'm sure clearcoat after it dries on just as extra protection.
You would be limited to what your printer can produce, meaning no metalics, pearlescents, etc..
