Worst misidentification?
03/19/05 at 23:03:24
All of us have had our bikes accused of being a Harley.
What else have they been called? Mine has been ID'd as an AJS, a Matchless, a Douglas (?), a Scout (wonder what he was smoking?). Has only been correctly ID'd twice, even the stealership guesses wrong. There is just something wrong with the dealer not knowing what a Savage is....
Fess up! How misinformed are the so-called experts in your area? Stock or modified, the Savage is an enigma.

Mine was called "Half a Harley" so i added
"but cost less than a tenth and the fun of riding it is at least more"

Most times they (other riders) don't believe the engine size is 650cc. Since it is a single they expect it to be in the 350cc range. Seems most motorcyclists aren't aware that a large single is still being made.

I get the, "what is it?" question all the time ... usually followed by, "what size engine is that?" ... most can't believe that it's a Suzuki and the older guys who rode Brit singles in their younger days are amazed that you can still buy a Thumper roadbike ...

"Worst Misidentification"?
I'll tell ya. I had a guy bend down and look at the engine real close and say, "Is that a single?"
Personally, if they have to ask, then they don't know enough to make comparisons anyway. I should have just said, "no, it's actually a Twingle"......

My Brother-in-Law, who always knows everything, swore it was a Harley, We got tired of arguing with him and said sure it is.

i hear all the same thing'., to confuse things further i've removed all markings except those on the engine casing.
i've been known to call it an "italian" custom, a "zaa zu kee".
i still smile though when i pull up for fuel and it gets more attention then bikes 5 to 6 times the price.

I have my Mazda medallions that the shop replaced when my car was in for bodywork. I was considering putting them on with a little foam tape.

Bike show quotes: "You should enter it as a classic, there's only one other single out here and it's in the open class" (it was an old bicycle with a single lunger motor) and later... "You'd probably take second behind that other Triumph" (a 66 Bonne).
Nobody believes its' a 98 and you can buy a 2005 just like it.
Nobody believes it's a 650.
Only one guy got it right the first time. He used to have a Savage, and now has a Bandit. He knew right away what it was.
