suzuki management

  hey yall
im one of the new kids . so , my question is , if its such a great scooter , how come so many mod.s are necessary? and , more importantly , why isnt suzuki paying any attention , or addressing them? personely , i like the bike . had to rejet and change the exhaust , but thats because it was too quiet and too slow stock . you would think that suzuki would address these problems .
ive modified every bike ive ever owned . it must be some kind of compulsion . but i never before saw sites like this , where so many mod.s need to be made by so many. Shocked

First of all: you don't have to modifiy your bike!!!

People like to customize, give the bike a personal touch.

For the savage most riders don't like  : the sound, the seat and like to add certain things like  winscreen, forward controls, luggage racks, (tool) bags.

Modifiing or customizing is only limeted by your imagination.

Have fun making your bike YOURS!

I was asking myself the same things and I think the answer is - no competition. This is an unique bike. The only one in the class.Whoever likes this kind of bike will buy it. I bet if the rest of the companies come up with similar bikes immidiately Suzuki will cure the oil leak, will come with better head design and the handling will be way better at high speed. For now we showld be happy there is at least LS650. And for this price what can You buy?

There are laws and standards that the manufacture must meet to be allowed to sell the motorcycle.  To avoid building multiple models for each market the manufacturer is forced to build to the lowest common denominator.

While "one size fits all" is usually not true, it is a fact that you build the vehicle to sell to the mass market.  Looking at the Savages offered for sale on Cycletrader and eBay I would say that the vast majority of Savages remain bone stock.  It is a perfectly acceptable bike as is from the factory.

I'd chop any new bike I bought, regardless of brand, model, displacement, etc. My basic philosophy/mantra is "Cuz stock sux". I could be given the keys to a brand new Corvette C7, a Viper, a Porsche, and I'd stillmess with it. Just a sickness that many of us are happy to be inflicted with... Grin

The bike works adequately as purchased off the showroom floor. Not the bike's fault the EPA and US Dept of Transportation have a stranglehold on the manufacturers of any motor vehicle.

I have a Savage because for years and years and.....you know....I have had a thing for big singles, and my wonderful son decided I needed one again so on Fathers Day 1999 a Savage showed up at my house...and I love it.  It is  not perfect to be sure, but it is a fun bike.  Suzuki made it as an INEXPENSIVE intoductory cruiser, with the imphasis on INEXPENSIVE!
Because of that every part on it, and the basic design of it, is under the LOW COST BANNER.  You just do not get world class performance with a BOTTOM DOLLAR PRICE.  Sooooooo, that is one of the primary reasons that people change the bike, along with the formentioned BUILT IN NEED to change for the sake of change.
For me, since the bike was a gift, I just go with what I've got and make it mine.  I like performance so I change for performance...carb, exhaust, engine, forks, shocks, seat (for the performance comfort ride), add-a-tach, quick on/off windshield (for weather days), etc.
Like everyone says, I am just making it MINE.

The Savage is like a time machine.  You can get a new bike that except for maybe the electronic ignition and front disk, could have been made 40 years ago.

Much better than a Royal Enfield, the only other air cooled thumper you can buy today.

And talking about RE - this is the only bike with such a low quality , so You can compare it to the russian bikes and to the chinese junk. With a competition like this no wander why Suzuki never made any real changes exept the gear box.

I added some accessories and did the hop up stuff and like the stock design and will leave that as is (for now).
Would like change the paint, though.
Wonder what the market for the Savage/40 is like worldwide?
Even if the Savage falls victim to inviro legislation here in N. America the line and tooling are bound to have long paid for themselves. Suzuki by accident or not, created a retro-bike that appealed to many and the sales must continue to be decent or it would be long gone.
Hope they continue to detune it and sell it here as they have for some years.  The flipside to that could be that maybe it would get EFI sometime. Next year is the Savage/40’s 20th anniversary. One hellava run. Wouldn’t a high(er) compression, EFI 20th anniversary model  w/ special paint be cool? Grin Were it up to me there would be a 20th Dresser model next year! ...ooo and add those goodies to the catalog too.
Hey Suzuki! do you translate/read this stuff??

I always like buells also but after reading this, I has second thoughts.

www.mybuell.com

Who knows if this is legit and if so, what models are affected, but I would think that anyone considering a buell should check it out
