Tarheel, you want to order your new cables from Barnett Clutches, just put that name in your search window. Don't freehang them like mine are, they beat the ever lovin' s**t out of the tank paint, quick fast and in a hurry. For the brake hose, Goodridge, Russel, Earls or Godwin High Performance, with 12mm banjo adaptors. The hoses come with AN fittings (aerospace) for ends, the banjos adapt AN to the bike. Those four companies are top quality. You could go with a cheap rubber hose if you want, they all carry them, but for the long run and funky bends involved with following the apehangers...go with braided stainless hose. Rubber over that long a span can lose pressure to the caliper pretty easily. Think "bendy-art" balloons. If you plan to keep the brake, steel will let it work better, it doesn't expand under pressure.

You'll need to extend the right hand wiring. Buy non-dimpled bars, the later model dimpled bars are oval, you will have to clearance your switch housings to make them work on dimpled bars. The housings need all the beef they can keep, they are pretty fragile as is. With any HD spec apehanger, don't be surprised if the riser caps/bodies need some minor clearancing as well. Just a light 60 grit sanding helps the caps catch the knurling on the bars. And tighten the riser bolts until they sqeak. Otherwise, the bars WILL move when you least expect it. Found that one out the hard way...

Hey thanks man. Did you get a load of all that bullsh*t on the RMV website. They have no idea what ergonomics are best for me. Next thing you know, the Mass RMV will be telling me what color to paint my bike.

Hey Nite,

It's good that here in Chile motorcycles are invisible for the lawmakers, we only have to worry about paying registration and getting them inspected once a year. No "real" insurance required, and not matter how it looks or rides, regulations do not care. As long as you have a headlight, a tail light, turn signals and good brakes and tires, open pipes, ape hangers, suspension are not important... 8)

Even more, a complete new highway with electronic toll system FORGOT  Shocked  to consider bikes, so now there is no "beeper" for motorbikes and we can now ride for free on a paid expressway...  Grin

Here, lawmakers are good, they leave us alone  Wink

A-men! That is the way it should be red_wine. The only reason the state cares about me and my stinking little bike is that they thay can squeeze another freaking nickel out of me. Oh I'm sorry that my loud motorcycle hurt your ears sir.  Hey you, your blinkers are not far enough apart, your handlebars are too high and your bike makes too much noise. Everyone needs to worry a little more about what is going on in their own lives and a little less about everyone else's.   Lips Sealed  Sorry if I sould like a lunatic, I go back and forth between anger and despair as I have lost all faith in the machine.  Thomas Jefferson would sh*t his pants if he could see what is happening here.

You do not sound like a lunatic, at leat not by my standards...

One thing I really do not understand about the Land of Freedom is the amount of regulations you guys have on everything... next thing they will tell you who you can sleep with or not...  Shocked

And the worst thing is .... you VOTE them!!!  Shocked

You get what you pay for ...   Tongue

I agree my rights limit with other people's, but what the f**k do ape hangers or forward pegs have to do with other people's rights? Loud pipes, yeah OK, I will put a sound restrictor on it, but DO NOT PLAY that freaking RAP every da**d Saturday night as if you were in the middle of the Sahara!!!!   Angry  I need to SLEEP too!!!!  Angry

Wheew,  certainly feels better to let some stean off....

Ride time,

Hola Red! How did you make out with your LS400? Have her fixed from the mishap you had recently?
Read a book recently by American, Patrick Symmes entitled Chasing Che ... in the mid-90's, Symmes re-created Che Guevara's 1952 motorcycle journey around South America ... brilliant! I was particularly interested in the section of the trip which took the author through Chile.
Nightrain ... I'm a bit surprised to learn out the level of bureaucratic regulation in Mass.?? Strangely, here in Canada (where we tend to be much more regulated than the U.S.), there are no stipulations on the type of handlebars a Bike can or can't have (at least in Newfoundland anyways) ... hell, we don't even have to get motorcycles inspected ... annual registration costs $75.00CAD though ...

The political machine wants all of us to be carbon copy, mindless zombie, robot worker bees.

People wonder why I want to move back to the Andalucian coast... Paella, coastal sunsets, mile upon mile of low density roads, why couldn't I have been discharged when I was stationed there  Sad ??? :'(

Bike laws are written and presented by non-enthusiasts, or those who are outright hostile to everything motorcycle. Unfortunately, they see only the 1%ers when they see a modified bike. They don't see the millions of dollars of tax revenues for parts, fuel, accessories, motels, campgrounds, restaurants, etc.  They don't see the research dollars collected for dozens of international charities, ranging from critters to cancer to MS/MD to children's medical research, etc. They don't see the doctor, lawyer, stockbroker, COP, firefighter, GI, or other normal people (hundreds of thousands if you include quads, dirtbikes) who ride. They see the drug trafficers form the 70s. They don't see the community involvement, the toy runs, hospital runs, the fundraiser for the ambulance/fire services, the new equipment provided to rural communities for the benefit of ALL, not just those of us who ride.

I could go on for hours...for my money, highbars+custom lighting+loud pipe does not =criminal.
Why is my bike so much worse than a "street monster" 4X4, a flatulence piped mega bassed ground scraping "ricer" car, the lowriding Impala full of "guntoting thugs"...

F'n stereotypes chap my a$$.

You are ALL WELCOME!!!!  Grin

See, it is not difficult to come over here, get a decent job if you have the rights skills (or even start your own company, we latinos tend to enjoy life more, and work less  Grin ), and become respected citizens (or bikers ,  8) )

Plus, it almost never snows in the cities, rain season is short in the Central Regions (non-existing in the mingin-thriving North, but more Seatland-like in the South), and we have gorgeous wine, seafood, fruits (ask Pennsylvanians), landscapes, you name it, so...
just stand in line with your papers at hand!!!  Grin

See you here,

8)R.W.  ... thru our involvement with various Student Exchange programs and meeting kids from Mexico and Ecuador, wife and I have come to appreciate the more "laid back" mind set of Latin Americans ... and you guys got it right! ... us North Americans tend to put our working lives ahead of family and self ... tsk, tsk ... I'll bet that the average working-class Latin American is generally happier than the average working-class North American.
Wife and I were saying just the other day how we're sick of the 9-to-5 "grind" and that we should just sell everything off and escape to more southern climes! Who knows ... maybe someday after our daughter is out on her own ...

My dear Perry,

In fact, the usual working day in Chile for white-collars is from 8:30 to 6:30, but we have a 1-hour lunch break, that can be "extended" slightly, and coffee breaks along the day, and lots of chatting around  Grin

Yes, we are less productive per worked hour, but our salaries are lower, and our living costs also are...  Roll Eyes

So, it's a compromise between more $ and more stress, or less $ and more relax... Roll Eyes

See you here (you just don't need to wait until your daughter is out on her own, you can come over in your "low season" to our high-season summer and forget about the rest....  Wink

See ya,

RW
