I'v never driven a VLX but I had a 2000 Shadow Aero and was the best bike I've ever owned. The savage is its own breed but Honda really does put it together.
congrats on the sweet deal!

Hey Bobo, if you have too many bikes over there in Arlington, I'll babysit your Savage for you, I'd like to have one to take to Lake Fork to ride while hubby fishes. I hate hauling mine in the back of the pickup from Weatherford.

If I rememeber clearly, the Shadow 600 is around 450 pounds. That would explain a better ride. We rode our bikes onto the shipping scales at work, and I remember his being 100 pounds heavier. Are you going to part with the bike, Bobo? Or are you gonna part with your Savage? I rode it, and I want it.

Everything is for sale, feel free to make an offer - use ebay for a pricing guide, that's what I do.
Don't know what we are going to do right now. I have somebody coming over to look at the 65 Buick (other post:

)
Wife and I talked about selling the Savage today, but she's really attached to it. She also likes the Shadow but does not want a heavy bike yet. I'm not happy with the Shadow's power but other than that it's a great bike. The jetting is stock, and it takes a long time to warm up enough to run right with no choke. I believe jetting and mixture screw adjustment may perk the Shadow up on the low end.
Going richer sure woke up my Savage.
We'll keep you posted.

your right about the long warm up cycle. I always had to wait for my buddy when we left work. His always took 3-5 minutes longer to run without choke. My Savage will generally run fine after a minute. Even when it's cool out.

I've noticed the Honda Shadow also takes a while. No problem, I just take off with the choke on and shut it off later, usually when the bike chokes at a red light, I check the petc0ck position, and then I remember...
If the Savage had a better ride, it would be the best thing available.
Any aftermarket springs for the Sav?

Looks like the 11 inch progressive 412's - i'm still trying to decide on 90/130 or 115/155 rate springs - best I can tell via measurements the stock '95 spings are between 90 and 100 lbs/in - in the front forks I'd bet some some progressive rates in there would help out as well - reduce some of the dive on hard brakeing - ceramic pads hanging on the wall - i'm trying to wear out the current pads first - and maybe a 2 1/2 inch hole in the filter cover with a 160 main.... be ready to go!

there are some aftermarket springs and shcks for the Savage, but I can't remember the brand name at this moment. I'll post it as soon as I find it.

I thought the Shadow 600 was a little sluggish just off the line. Rear tire only had 10psi. No wonder.
Bike runs like it should now that I have 36 psi. Now it will chirp the rear tire if you quick-foot the clutch, like the Savage will. Don't think it will catch the Savage though.
Wife and I might race after the kids go night-night.
Take that ever how you want.
