best place to splice in tach and shielding

Morning all. I have 4 wires on the tach of which i only think I would need 3.
RED - igition on
BLUE - Lamp on
BLACK - ground
GREEN- negative terminal on coil
Do i really need the Blue? There are no lights to turn off or on on my Canadian Savage. Everything turns on when the key is turned on. Also is it best to attach green directly at the coil lead or can I splice into that wire anywhere. Someone mentioned something about having to shield this wire. Shield with what and how. Tach came with probably 24" of wire on it.
thanks

Take a look on page 3 of the Topic "Paint". In one picture you can sorta see where to connect the Tach.
If you want the lamp in the tach to come on, you will need to connect the blue wire to a positive lead somewhere. If you connect the Red + Blue leads to the coil positive side, the black to ground anywhere, and the green to the coil negative you are done.
