The Savage service manual I have is wrong on the jet sizes. Evidently this is a common problem. I went down to a cylce repair shop looking for jets for my savage. I was looking for a pilot jet size never made. The owner pulled up his microfiche on the savage and said the service manual was wrong. This is froma  guy I totally trust, too. Yeah, it was really ahrd to find a mikuni 47.5 pilot! Also, beware, there are several types of pilot jets out there! Bring yours along with you when you go to buy a new one...

Has anyone changed the pilot jet size, in addition ot the main, with a new air filter or pipe?

If all else fails, you can drill out the stock jetting. I'm anxiously waiting for the arrival of a 188ish and 210 main jet pair to try. Might borrow a good drill and step up the pilot jet that way... I borrowed a program at work the other day for carb calibrating, i need at least a 185 main with my current set-up... So much for fuel economy.  Roll Eyes At least I'll be less likely to burn a hole in the piston or fry an exhaust valve. ill miss the flame out the pipe though...

If you look at the specs here for a 96 -

http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?board=tech;action=display;num=1098869040

yours is close to a "CA" model that had a #125 but also the pilot, needle, needle jet and such are different

When you go for the inspection - I forgot what is called -
do they do an emssions check? if so your best bet might be to grab another carb from ebay and swap it and back to the other for the inspection

130? Wow.  I guess the European Savages may be even leaner at stock than those in the the US (except maybe California).  Here's a link to J & P Cycles where you can get Mikuni mains for that carb.  If you have a local HD dealer, they may have them too.  Ask for the large round type.  The above post points out a very important possibility though.  If you get smog checks, you may want to be able to revert to stock for the inspections.  Do you also have a smog canister like the California Savages?

Your stock main jet is a #130?  That is downright disgraceful.  We definitely need to protest, march, or otherwise stir the pot!!
On the practical side, what jets do you want?  Main jet...pilot jet...
I have:  Pilot jets:  15, 20, 25, 27.5, 37.5, 40, 45, 50, 52.5, 55
             Main jets: 160, (170), 220, 230, 240, 250, 260, 280, plus a bunch of 300 and 400 series.
**The #170 is the standard large round version, the others are the smaller hex version...all are of the same thread size and all will work in the stock carb.
**The pilot jets may look a little different from the stock but work just fine.  I used all of these types of jets in my stock carb before replacing it with performance units.

You should be able to tell pretty quick! - also it looks like your needle may have 3 notches on it and set to the 2nd - if so you could move the keeper and richen it up - have you pulled the slide yet?

Something funky is going on here.  I just saw what appear to be replies to this thread from Slavy and Lancer in two different posts.  I saw some similar weirdness yesterday where a reply didn't match the topic.

It  could be that we are just SPACE CADETS and are no longer able to follow a thought pattern ...in the normal manner.
