Mom passed down her 03 Savage and so far:

JPcycles shorty muffler (extremely loud)
Carb rejetted
Brighter H4 bulb for headlight
Neon Blue LED lights.

The more I read here the more I want to do. Next up is a 7inch fork mounted headlight and I want to relocate the rear turn signals.

Since last post in this thread... bought and modified a 2003, retired the 1998.

Mods: Full rear fender. Bullet rear lights. Tombstone taillight. Round mirrors on bent stems. Seat lift with solo seat conversion. Custom exhaust. 2 inch rise mini dog bone riser set. FL touring bend handlebar. Police windscreen. Saddlebags. 7 inch side mount headlight. Full sized crash bar (modified straight leg Panhead bar, custom frame bracket). Half moon floorboards. Progressive rear shocks. Increased oil level in front forks (still too soft).

Still to happen: Front drum wheel conversion. Vintage replica perches and levers. Luggage rack. Vintage replica reflectors.  Front fender light. Spotlights and bar.

Bike looks like a 1950s single other than the head cover chrome trim...



... almost worthy of the model name now.

Hello to all you guys took a lot of time in putting this together and it shows how much you like the thumpers as do I.
I see a trend reading the posts of everyone. That there are almost a strongly or must recommended mods that everyone has made that would make the Savage/S40 even better.

How much horsepower could someone expect to have after those engine modifications are completed?

I posted in the other thread, but in my opinion and the testing I've done, swingarm/chain contact will be your limiting factor on sprocket selection. I'm running an 18/52 sprocket set and I have the rear raised as high as possible without effecting chain contact under normal riding conditions. A smaller CS sprocket would limit the height of my rear suspension, a compromise that I'm not willing to make.

I suggest getting the rear of the bike off the ground, removing your mono shock and moving the swingarm up and down to see where contact occurs. A smaller CS will reduce this range of travel.

3. Ebay drag bars - don't get dimpled like I did! 1" diameter 2" rise

4. Biltwell oxblood thruster grips

5a. Lancers stock jet kit 52.5 pilot and 152.5 main jet (w/stock air box)

5b. White spacer mod (2 - #4 washers)

6. Harley dyna glide muffler (one with slider mount on the back. Install was very easy thanks to that.)

7. Blue Collar Bobber kit: fender, seat, vertical license plate, front and rear lights (due to the 140/90 rear tire, I need to get creative with mounting the rear fender)

8. DEI Titanium exhaust heat wrap 25'

9. Raptor 660 petcock

And planning more to come..

2015 S40. Had 1500 kms on it.

Shaved the seat down.
Cats Eye tail light (Halogen) under the fender.
Mini bullet turn signals (LED) - custom rear bracket and P-Clamps for the front.
Lower, wider, straighter drag bars with custom low risers
Bar end mirrors
Willie and Max saddlebags - modified OEM brackets

The usual carb mods
Ditched the throttle restrictor
Dropped some chrome, added some different chrome.

In progress:
Further modified seat (lower).
4" Forward controls.
Custom aluminium plate to cover the stock taillight holes.

Maybe:
Hard mount the saddlebags.

Dreaming:
'Street Legal' bobber conversion.

Just put on this muffler and it sounds amazing!! It's a harley #65657-07. Got it for $10.  Was only able to use one of the stock holes to mount it. Going to have to buy or make a better mounting bracket.
