Hello,
I recently bought a Savage from 86 for my wife

(she is new to motorcycling).
When I test drove it it ran OK

. but now that my wife is learning (very low speed, basically learning how to handle the clutch) the
engine stalls
and is difficult to start again

, the smoke from the exhaust is a bit black and there is a
terrible gas smell.
So I think that the mixtures is too rich at low throttle / idle.
I checked the mixture screw and set it at 3 full turn out from the deepest position: no effect.
I checked the petc0ck and that works OK.
So I thought it was the floater maybe.
I opened the float chamber and when I put the petc0ck on prime the gas flows until I lift the floater with my finger, so that seems to work also.
However I noticed that one of the 2 floaters was bumped a bit (floating volume was smaller) and not there where the floats are parallel to the bike, one was a little bit bent (maybe it is not moving freely in the floater chamber, I cannot tell).
???now come the questions.???
Could it be a floater problem that I'm having?
How do I check the function of the floater? What happens to the gas when the float chamber overflows?
If you turn the pilot mixture screw out you make the mixture leaner right?Without the mixture screw the mixture should be way too lean right? If the mixture is still too rich then it should be the floater, correct?
Did anyone have to change the needle-valve of the floater?
