Everbody stay safe

Hey everybody,

Last sunday I was on my way to my ole' ladys house when I saw a motorcycle demolished in pieces on the side of a road with a bunch of ambulances and firetrucks and what not.  So I drive past and see a figure of a body covered in a white sheet with what looks like a tripod keeping the sheet down.

I'm sad to report it was a childhood buddy of mine and that he was pronounced dead at the scene. Originally I was flipping out because they kept the body out there for about three hours but now I understood there was an investigation going on and that must have been what the tripod looking thing was all about. At first I was thinking another sad story of the crazy increase in motorcycle fatalities this year but, the fact it was a close childhood buddy of mine really struck home. According to the news he lost control of his bike at a high rate of speed and hit a curb, went airbone and struck a tree, then a second tree and travelled over 200 feet in the accident.  Now I ask what the hell was he doing going that fast down a side street ?

His bike was a 2005 Kawasaki.  I am just guessing that he did not have a cycle endorsement and never took a riders course. I don't think an exprienced rider would have been going that fast in a neighborhood or lost control.  If I've learned anything from that course is that most of these things are preventable. Being a young guy of 22 I really questioned myself on buying the Savage and I also did not recieve my endorsement until this May when I took the riders safety course. Now I know I made the right desicion on both cases instead of being a hard heading young punk. And hoping that this crotch rocket speed craze will ever die down and that I never have to witness anything like that again, I would appreciate any thoughts or comments from what I feel is the most likeable and respectable group of riders that I know.  Thanks Guys

I feel for you. I know it's tough losing a friend when you are young. When your friend bought that bike, I  doubt he ever considered that his life would soon be over. I will have a good thought for a fellow motorcyclist.

He was risking his life in return for the adrenal rush of speed.  Speeding on a motorcycle is seductive and far too easy.  Youth and inexperience are often a fatal combination; always have been.  It is a sad loss.  It is a part of the price we, society, pay for freedom.

It is sad indeed.  Loss of life over something like just a "rush" is very tough to even contemplate.
My heart is with you.
