First Ride in Rain!
09/01/05 at 03:35:54

Well, went for a spin last evening with my CM450 ridin' pal and wasn't at all pleased with how I did, eventhough this is my 3rd season riding an m/c ... felt that my skills were sloppy, or maybe I was "off my game" or something ... anyhoo, got up this morning and the weather was overcast with heavy drizzle and the pavement was wet, so uncharacteristically I decided to take the LS in to work instead of the cage ... now I HATE for my Bike to be dirty, but I thought it would be a good opportunity to sharpen my skills and heighten my "road awareness" ... took my time and have to say it was a nice ride in ... Bike is rotten, but what-the-hey ... 'spose it can cleaned! There're calling for showers this afternoon as well; should be interesting ... wish me luck!

If your tires are in good shape, stay off the oil and paint, slow down a little - it's fun and your really awake by the time you get there - now lightning is a different story - I go hide when that stuff starts cracking!

I don't mind riding in the rain but it always seems to catch me unprepared. By the time I get home, I am wet clear through. Had to stop 4 times to clear my glasses. But one realy good thing, I wasn't hot! in Texas, in August, anytime you can ride and not be hot, it's a good ride.

Speaking of "Riding in the Rain", are any of you Texans seeing any evacuees from New Orleans, yet?

I live West of Weatherford, some 45 miles west of Dallas and we have, at last count, 68 people in a campground on the E. side of town. I understand they are expecting more this evening. I know the anguish they are experiencing, I have lived through two floods, one when I was 8 and the other at 13. We lost nearly everything and what wasn't lost was ruined. My heart is broken for them. I am gathering up things I remember needing to take out there, such as soap, shampoo, personal care items. Lots of people donated clothes, but we needed baths! And we had to have a series of shots, wonder if they still do that? And Medications, wonder how that will be addressed?

As the discussion is going in the other topic, cash donations to the Red Cross and the Salvation Army and others is the way to go.  You guys in Texas and surrounding states will be assisting these people for a long time.  The rest of us need to help too.

Yep, I imagine many shots will be given.

as far as shots go yer lookin at -- hep, tetanus, and possible menengitis outbreaks but potable water, food  and sanitation are by far more critical at this point. these bastard looters all need to be shot. Its one thing to loot a grocery store to feed your family but to steal from someones home out of greed is askin for buckshot. At least where I come from.

Reelthing i had no idea you were in Houston. Maybee we aught to meet up halfway something go for a cruise. I live in Austin Texas.

O and i forgot on the subject of riding in the rain. MAN I HATE IT. I'd rather have heat then rain. Jeans and shoes get soaked. I cant stand wet socks. And feeling droplets hit your face at just 40 mph sucks it gets worse going faster. like someone is throwing little darts at you.  I guess i could buy a full face helmet.....

...... NAH
