Horsepower

I'm having a great time on my new-to-me 2003 Savage.  I get the standard question of what is the cc of the engine and I'm good.  I get asked the horsepower and I don't know.  What is the horsepower of a stock engine?  How does this compare with other 650's?

Thanks.

To my knowledge the hp on a stock savage is 29,and around 31ft lbs of torque.most other 650's have at least 50hp,crotchrockets have more than one hundred hp.

I have a 02 savage and a 02 V Star 650 custom. The v star has a  barons stealth big air kit, Jet kit, HK pipes, and a dyna ignition. Probably has about 45-50 HP

the savage with a sportster muffler, snorkel removed and jetting will still hang right there with it. The savage is so much lighter it doesnt need as much power to be fast.

I have rode my friends SV 650.  It really does not feel that much faster despite having 70 hp.  That is comparing it to my rejeted/K&N/sportster modded Savage.  I have no idea what hp difference this makes to the Savage, but it feels huge.  But I don't think there is much you could to to truly match these bikes.  For around town things can be evened up pretty easily, but at higher speeds the sportbike easily outperforms in terms of both acceleration and top speed.

Prior to installing a Jardine muffler dyno tests showed my 2001 savage with 31 HP, and 37.3 ft/lb torque.
After the Jardine was installed my bike showed 35 HP, and 43.7 ft/lb torque.

This mod truly gives the savage a sound that matches its performance.  Not like the stock muffler that makes the Savage sound like a sewing machine.

Next year I'll add a K&N filter and rejet the carbs!

I dunno but my savage with the amal carb screaming eagle pipe big k&n kills my bros 883 sportster.  but once we hit 80 he still has lots of room to kill me.
