On my '95, after sealing the plug, I still had an oil leak that turned out to be the speedometer cable and/or I had packed the stainless screen in the head cover to tight causing to much back pressure, but enough oil would go up the cable to leak out under the tank - ended up pushing the screen down a bit through the breather pipe and replaceing the cable.

I did my cap and valve cover redo and sealed everything quite well.  I then cleaned off the bike with water from the outside.  After running it, some oil seemed to be leaking out still, and I was disappointed.  I let it cool,  took some degreaser spray and sprayed it in between the bolt top and the plug bottom (on the outside  of the engine, but up into the hard to get at areas).  I then used a standard water hose nozzle set on a tight stream to spray water up in the hard to get at areas.  This took all the extra oil from the leak and cover removal away.  No more leak!  It was the residual oil becoming mobile with the high engine temp that made me think I had not done it correctly.
