Oil leak at speedo cable at tranny
09/07/05 at 10:12:16

Does anyone know if there is some sort of "O" ring or gasket that goes between the speedo cable at the tranny.  Seems that I might have a slight leak there.  I have been to the dealer and they looked into the manual and found nothing.  Anyone??
Thanks
Mt

Yes, there is a small metal and rubber gasket that goes in the end of the speedo cable before it attaches to the tranny.  If a person removes the gas tank for any reason (like carb mods), it can easily be lost.  I have heard of great success in replacing it with a regular small o-ring from an auto parts store.

Thanks Clark, that's what I have heard but I wonder why the Suzuki guy doesn't show it in the manual.  Any ideas on size of gasket or "O" ring?
Thanks

The oem seal can not be ordered seperate for some unknown reason - some of the rubber orings do not
hold up to well - a leaking oem seal and the yellow teflon tape works quite well - it is much thicker than the white stuff and is rate for fuel contact.

Yup, the shop that overhauled my engine lost the seal too.  They told me that it wasn't in the manual and a whole bunch of other b.s., anyways I've been running the rubber o-rings ever since and it seems to be ok.  Sorry I don't know the sizes, but I'm useing two different sizes. One fits around the little thing that spins and the other fits around the  metal houseing around it (the place where the original gasket is suppose to be).

I got a small bag of rubber O rings at Home Depot in the faucet area in plumbing. It was an assortment of 3 or 4 different sizes & the one that fit was a little smaller than a dime in diameter. Works well, no leaks.

Just try for nitrile o-rings (or something else that is petroleum resistant).
